A$AP Rocky's legal troubles are increasing as his former friend piles a defamation lawsuit on top of the pair's ongoing shooting drama.
The battle between the "Fashion Killa" rapper and his former A$AP MOB group member, A$AP Relli, began in 2021. The latter claimed the father of two had allegedly assaulted him with a firearm.
Last year, the case made waves in court as Rihanna's baby daddy denied the charges. Now, the plaintiff has accused his ex-pal's lawyer, Joe Tacopina, of ruining his image with false narratives in his client's defense.
A$AP Rocky & His Attorney Sued For Running A Smear Campaign Against A$AP Relli
The entertainer's legal troubles arrived weeks after welcoming his second child with the Savage x Fenty founder. The defamation lawsuit, obtained by TMZ revealed Relli's claims about the New Yorker's ploy to dismiss the 2021 shooting as an extortion scheme.
According to the plaintiff, A$AP Rocky's rapper's attorney smeared his image in his defense, painting him as the bad guy. A$AP Relli claimed Tacopina went on a press campaign, telling various media outlets that he was "a liar, a money grabber, and an extortionist."
The displeased artist believed the legal practitioner's actions resulted from Rocky's orders. In one of the lawyer's interviews, the 57-year-old declared, "Rocky didn't commit a crime. It was an extortion attempt by a former associate, who threatened to make false, criminal accusations if Rocky didn't pay him."
In the legal filing, Relli alleged the defamation attacks made him the victim of various death threats. He also became fodder for the public's entertainment, claiming he suffered from ridicule.
For his pain, the plaintiff requested an unspecified compensation in damages. On the other hand, Rocky did not seem bothered by the new lawsuit, given his lawyer's confidence. The personal attorney for former president Donald Trump claimed the defamation case was a wrong move on Relli's part.
"This is actually nothing more than a publicity stunt which is going to backfire badly," Tacopina declared. "I more than welcome this lawsuit, especially because the resolution of the criminal case has not happened yet."
The high power attorney did not back down from describing Relli as a money grabber and noted his new lawsuit would unveil his fraudulent activities. "This opens up this extortionist to depositions under oath now before the resolution of the criminal case. It will expose the fraud he committed," Rocky's attorney explained.
"And unfortunately for his lawyers, it will cause them to be responsible for legal fees in this case. They don't know the facts of this case or the actions taken by their client. But, I will be more than happy to educate them," Tacopina concluded his message.
As stated, the legal drama between Rocky and his former pal began over the alleged 2021 shooting. Last August, the "Praise the Lord" rapper appeared at a Los Angeles court to plead not guilty to the firearm charges.
The New Yorker was charged with two counts of assault with a handgun and accused of personally using a firearm. Relli claimed Rocky had pointed a semi-automatic gun at him and fired the weapon in his direction during a confrontation.
Although the incident occurred in November 2021 per the alleged victim, he did not file charges against the "Wild for the Night" rapper until August 2022. Relli demanded over $25k in damages and additional money for his medical bills.
The Two-time Grammy Nominee Secretly Welcomed His Second Child With Rihanna
Weeks before the defamation drama, the "A$AP Forever" rapper and his longtime lover secretly enjoyed the arrival of their second child a baby boy. Before the newborn's arrival, the proud parents welcomed their first son RZA Athelston in 2022.
The "Rude Boy" songstress unveiled her second pregnancy at the 2023 Super Bowl during her Halftime show performance. Despite the public announcement and frequent baby bump updates on social media, Rihanna and her beau had a low-key welcoming for their new son.
According to the child’s birth certificate, obtained by The Blast, the baby was born on August 1, 2023, inside Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles at 7:41 a.m. He is named Riot RoseMayers, starting with R just like his brother.
Riot's arrival came three months after RZA clocked one. The “Where Have You Been” singer and Rocky marked the boy's big day in style, with the proud dad sharing a carousel of memories on his Instagram page.
