For Ed Sheeran, it is 'Safety first, Party later!'
In a remarkable display of concern for his devoted fanbase, the global music sensation made a surprising decision. After safety concerns arose, the singer took to social media to announce the cancellation of his much-anticipated Las Vegas concert.
Ed Sheeran Cancels Las Vegas Concert For Safety Reasons
The 32-year-old faced unexpected hurdles in setting up his show at Allegiant Stadium near the Strip. Taking to his page, he expressed disbelief, stating, "I can't believe I'm typing this, but there's been some challenges encountered during the load in of our vegas show. It's impossible to go forward with the show. I'm so sorry."
The "Thinking Out Loud" singer noted his regret for the inconvenience caused to his fans who had traveled to attend the concert. He then provided the new date, "Saturday, October 28th," adding, "and all purchased tickets will be valid for that date. I'm so, so sorry x."
In response to his announcement, his dedicated fanbase rallied around him, offering their support and understanding. One highlighted the empathy shared among Sheeran's admirers, stating, "Real fans understand that not everything is in our control."
Another chimed in, urging fellow devotees to show "patience and kindness" because "no man puts his heart on the stage more than this guy!!!!" Many fans appreciated the Grammy Awards winner's commitment to finding a solution, as a third pointed out, "At least it's rescheduled. Most artists would just cancel, sack it off, and refund."
At the same time, another enthusiastic concert-goer thanked Sheeran for the "heads up" and reassured him, writing, "WAS HEADED TO YOUR SHOW TONIGHT. CU October 27! 🔥🙌🔥🙌❤️🙌🔥🙌🔥."
In a subsequent post on Sunday, the "Shape of You" artist shared a screenshot of a news report and a personal update for his fans. The report revealed a concerning "flooring problem" at the venue, where rubber tiling had come unstuck, leading to two tall towers slipping by a foot each overnight. In the caption, he wrote:
"A little bit more context on the cancellation yesterday. It was a safety issue, and we really tried to do the best we could to make the show happen but I'm not gonna risk the safety of my fans for anything."
While acknowledging that it was beyond his control, he expressed deep regret and took "full responsibility for everyone that was put out from the cancellation." The songwriter assured fans that refunds were available "at point of purchase" and promised that the rescheduled show would be "special."
He empathized with people's efforts to attend the Vegas show and apologized for delays in communication. He explained further, "We really thought the show was going to happen up until the very last moment but it just couldn't for safety reasons. Sorry again to everyone affected, and hopefully see you in October x."
The 'Perfect' Singer Dispels Super Bowl Performance Speculations
The "Game of Thrones" guest star addressed fans' Super Bowl hopes, setting the record straight in a chat with Andy Cohen on "Andy Cohen's Deep & Shallow Podcast on SiriusXM."
As reported by The Blast, the conversation took place before his performance in New York, where the "Modern Love" guest actor discussed the potential of gracing the iconic sports event.
When asked about the Super Bowl, Sheeran revealed a past discussion about potentially joining fellow British act Coldplay to perform "Thinking Out Loud" when they headlined the event in 2016.
The record producer mentioned to the host that he was open to joining a headlining act but did not find it appealing to be the main performer. He humbly acknowledged:
"I don't think that anyone wants to see me do the Super Bowl either. I think that would be the only way that I would do it is if I was joining someone else."
The father-of-two gave additional reasons for his reservations, mentioning his belief that it was "an American thing," adding, "I don't have pizazz." Sheeran highlighted that his typical shows heavily rely on his loop pedal, which would not meet the requirements of an NFL performance.
He contrasted his style with the elaborate productions of artists like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and The Weeknd, stating, "All of these amazing performers, I'm just not that. I'm not gonna have dancers on stage. I'm not gonna have fireworks and blah blah, I just can't; that's not me."
