Disney Security Accused Of Breaking Guest's Gaming System
By Kelly Coffey-Behrens on September 6, 2023 at 7:00 PM EDT
In 2021, Walt Disney World implemented a new contactless security system at all four theme parks — Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom — as well as at Disney Springs.
With this new contactless security system, Guests just simply walk through a contactless security scanner, with their bags on them, rather than each individual Guest needing to see a security guard and have their bags searched. This new system helps to increase overall efficiency in security lines.
Certain items within Guests’ bags will still set off the body scanner, which will lead to that specific Guest needing to go through an additional screening process.
Guest Blames Security For Broken Gaming System
One Guest visiting Disneyland recently took to Reddit to share a photo of their gaming system after going through additional security screening at the Parks. "Disneyland Security Guard cracked my screen during inspection 😢," they wrote alongside a photo of the gaming system, which clearly shows a cracked screen.
They later revealed that the actual inside of the screen was broken as well, meaning this Guest may need to bring the system to a repair shop.
Disney's website does state, "All persons, bags, parcels, clothing and other items may be subject to screening/security checks. We reserve the right not to allow any bag, parcel or other item and to deal with any unattended object, bag or luggage in such way as we consider appropriate."
How To Avoid Additional Disney Security Screening
If you don't want to risk going through additional security, you will want to take certain items out of your bag prior to walking through the scanner. There are some obvious items, such as laptops and cameras, but there are also some items that people may not realize is setting off the scanner — such as glasses cases or umbrellas.
Here is a short list of items that Guests have been told set off the security sensors at the theme parks:
- Glasses cases
- Cameras
- Umbrellas
- Laptops
- Portable battery charges (if big enough)
Guests should also make sure to not bring in any of Disney World's or Disneyland's prohibited items, including drugs, firearms, knives, weapons of any kind, fireworks, horns or whistles, etc. Disney reserves the right to not allow any bag, item, etc. as they consider appropriate or inappropriate.
Here is a list of some prohibited items from the Disney Parks, per the official website:
- Firearms, ammunition, knives and weapons of any kind.
- Self-defense or restraining devices (e.g., pepper spray, mace)
- Marijuana (including marijuana enriched products) or any illegal substance.
- Objects or toys that appear to be firearms or weapons.
- Fireworks or other similarly explosive and/or flammable objects, smoke machines or fog machines.
- Horns, whistles, large megaphones or artificial noise makers.
- Recreational devices such as drones, remote-control toys, skateboards, scooters, inline skates or shoes with built-in wheels. Bicycles are permitted only in designated Disney Resort areas.
- Selfie sticks, hand-held extension poles for cameras or mobile devices, flags and banners are not allowed in any theme park, water park or Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
