Miley Cyrus Recalls Malibu Home She Shared With Her Ex Liam Hemsworth That Burned Down

Recalling cherished memories, Miley Cyrus recalled her former Malibu home that she shared with her ex-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. The singer highlighted the significance of the house that burned down in the California wildfires in 2018 as the starting point of her solo artist journey and songwriting.

In part 13 of her "Used To Be Young" TikTok series, the "Flowers" hitmaker opened up about her connection to the house, stating, "The 'Meet Miley Cyrus' record was really where I started writing my own songs as a solo artist." She continued, "I was working with a producer in Malibu that lived in a house in Ramirez Canyon, which I would've never known 15 years later I would be living in that house, which would eventually burn down."

Cyrus emphasized the magical impact the house had on her, noting, "That house had so much magic to it. It ended up really changing my life."

Back in November 2018, the former couple's $2.5 million four-bedroom home was ravaged by wildfires. During that time, Cyrus was working on a project abroad.

In a tweet at the time, the former Disney child star opened up about her loss, writing, "My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family and friends stand strong. I am grateful for all I have left."

In the aftermath of this tragedy, the "Wrecking Ball" singer got candid about the process of rebuilding her life. She shared her feelings with Vanity Fair in 2019, admitting, "I'll never be happy that all those memories and pictures and things that I've loved are gone. But to have an experience like this—I find myself feeling more connected to being human again."

Cyrus has been revisiting her memories as part of her series centered around her latest song, "Used to Be Young." Following the release of the track, the former Disney star delved into the inspiration behind the emotional ballad.

In an Instagram post on August 25, Cyrus shared, "This song is about honoring who we've been, loving who we are & celebrating who we will become. I feel proud when reflecting on my past and joyful when thinking about the future."

Expressing gratitude for her devoted fans, she continued, "I am grateful to all my loyal fans who make my dreams a reality daily. I am sincerely thankful for the stability of your steadfast support. This song is for you." 

In the second part of her "Used To Be Young" TikTok series, Cyrus spoke about the differing perspectives she and her country star father, Billy Ray Cyrus, have on fame, success, and celebrity status.

"The Angels Like You" singer recalled, "When I was born, my dad had the No. 1 country song," referring to his 1992 hit "Achy Breaky Heart." 

She continued, "When I see the numbers, I just see the humans behind it enjoying the music, and I just see people in numbers." According to the singer, her fame meant a lot to her dad due to his upbringing.

"My dad grew up the opposite of me," she stated. "So I think that’s where me and my dad’s relationship to fame and success is wildly different. Him feeling loved by a big audience impacted him emotionally more than it ever could me. When he feels special or important, it’s like healing a childhood wound. And I’ve always been made to feel like a star."

While reflecting on the contrast, Miley tearfully added, "It makes me emotional... I think that's the difference."
