Florence Welch Reveals She Underwent Life-saving Surgery
The 36-year-old frontwoman of Florence and The Machine took to Instagram to reveal her deeply personal journey over the past few days. After experiencing health challenges that prompted her to cancel several concerts, Welch divulged that she underwent a life-saving surgical procedure that marked a turning point in her physical well-being.
In her heartfelt statement, she expressed remorse over canceling the shows while noting that she doesn't feel "strong enough" to go into details of the medical emergency. She acknowledged the disappointment and concern her cancellations had caused but promised to be back to close the tour.
"'I'm so sorry that I had to cancel the last couple of shows," Welch wrote in the statement. "My feet are fine, I had to have emergency surgery for reasons I don't really feel strong enough to go into yet, but it saved my life."
"… And I will be back to close out the Dance Fever tour in Lisbon and Malaga (maybe not jumping so much, but you can do that for me)," she added.
Florence Welch Bemoans 'Prophetic' Nature Of Her Songs
As she continued her statement, the "You've Got The Love" hitmaker revealed a complex mix of emotions, including a sense of responsibility over her ordeal as she lamented the seemingly "prophetic" nature of her lyrics.
"Suffice to say, I wish the songs were less accurate in their predictions. But creativity is a way of coping, mythology is a way of making sense," Welch shared.
"And the dark fairytale of Dave Fever, with all its strange prophecies, will provide me with much-needed strength and catharsis right now," she added.
She Canceled Her Tour Due To 'Medical Advice'
Welch's life-saving surgery comes just six days after she revealed that Florence and The Machine would no longer be performing at the Zurich Open Air Festival and Rock en Seine, per the Daily Mail.
In a heartfelt message that she shared on her Instagram stories, she opened up about the health issues that led her to cancel several of her highly anticipated gigs, pointing out that the decision was arrived at due to "medical advice."
"Sadly, on medical advice, Florence + The Machine will not be able to perform this weekend at Zurich Open Air Festival on 25 Aug and Rock En Seine on 26 Aug. We appreciate your understanding and patience," the post read.
Florence Welch Suffered A Foot Injury On Stage
Welch previously shed light on the health issues that led her to cancel a highly anticipated performance at the O2 Arena in London last November. The singer's health issue was at the forefront again as she had to cancel her show to attend to her foot.
"I'm so sorry to say that after an X-ray, it seems I was dancing on a broken foot last night," Welch said at the time.
"It is not in my nature to postpone a show, and certainly not a UK tour, but I'm in pain, and as dancers know, dancing on an injury is not a good idea. And have been told not to perform to avoid further damage," she went on.
"Please hang on to your tickets," the singer added. "We are working our hardest to reschedule these dates for next year, and we will let you know as soon as possible."
Welch went on to note that she was "heartbroken" as the tour had been her "favorite show" before sharing words of comfort with her fans.
"I love you so much, and I'm so sorry to anyone who is disappointed. My heart is aching. I can't wait to be back on my feet and back in your arms," the singer concluded the post.
The Florence and the Machine band went on to make good on their live dates in early 2023, playing the likes of The O2, London.
