The couple were seemingly bonding over religion in a bid to save their marriage, but that didn't help, as a string of "nasty" fights and "petty" quarrels led to Biermann filing for divorce a second time.
The announcement comes a month after Zolciak and Biermann had withdrawn their previous divorce filing, leaving fans to think their relationship was headed for better days.

Kroy Biermann & Kim Zolciak Became 'Petty' Over Money
The couple, who has been a prominent figure in the spotlight due to their appearances on the reality television show "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," had appeared to be working on their differences after they both withdrew their initial filing for divorce in July. However, a source told TMZ that the estranged couple were still at loggerheads even though it didn't seem so from the outside.
According to the insider, Biermann and Zolciak had been fighting in private, and things quickly escalated and became "nasty." Their financial strain is alleged to have taken a toll on their relationship as they have been arguing over money issues, blaming each other for their financial woes.
"They've gotten ridiculously petty over who hasn't paid bills. They're counting down to pennies," one source told the news outlet.
Kroy Biermann Is Seeking Primary Custody Of Children
The ongoing saga between the former Atlanta Falcons outside linebacker and the "Don't be Tardy" star has taken yet another twist, as legal documents obtained by The Blast revealed that he's seeking primary custody of their four minor children, 9-year-old twins Kaia Rose and Kane Ren, plus sons Kash Kade, 10, and Kroy Jagger, 11.
Court records also showed that he noted their 12-year union was "irretrievably broken," demanding "exclusive, temporary and permanent use and possession of the marital residence" in Alpharetta.
Biermann also wants Zolciak to pay child support on a "temporary and permanent basis for the support of the minor children" and is "entitled to an award of reasonable and necessary attorneys' fees and expenses of litigation."
"Petitioner (Biermann) shows that Respondent (Zolciak) should be restrained and enjoined from coming about the marital residence after she vacates," court documents read.
Zolciak has not yet publicly responded to Biermann's specific requests.
Kroy Biermann & Kim Zolciak's Divorce Rollercoaster
This shocking development comes after a period of apparent reconciliation following their decision to withdraw their divorce filing in July, which they had attributed to their commitment to making things work for the sake of their children.
Zolciak made her filing in May, noting that their marriage was "irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation," demanding primary physical custody of their children and joint legal custody while also asking for spousal support and the restoration of her maiden name at the time.
The duo's divorce battle escalated to a point where they began accusing each other of various things, from kidnapping and drug use around their kids to excessive gambling.
However, a source confirmed to People magazine that they had decided not to give up on their marriage and to chase what's best for their kids.
"They're getting along and calling off the divorce," the source shared. "They're trying to make it work for the kids."
At the time, Zolciak filed a "dismissal without prejudice of answer and counterclaim" in the Superior Court of Fulton County in Georgia, although she retained rights to refile, while Biermann's attorney Marlys Bergstrom told Entertainment Tonight that the pair were "dismissing divorce action and reconciling."
They Were Pictured Attending Sunday Service With Kids
Amid their initial reconciliatory efforts, the couple were captured, sharing a poignant family moment. Pictures surfaced of Biermann and Zolciak attending a church service alongside their children, highlighting their commitment to maintaining a sense of normalcy for their family despite the challenges they faced, per TMZ.
They were also seen taking their kids out for lunch, spending some quality time together despite their tumultuous divorce proceedings at the time.
Their financial woe is well documented after it was revealed they owed the IRS a whopping $1.1 million in unpaid taxes, interest, and penalties from 2013, 2017, and 2018, and also owed the state of Georgia $15,000 for due taxes for 2018.
