Jim Carrey tried to share his personal tribute to the Queen of Soul, but fans are questioning the color tones he used and claim he turned Aretha Franklinwhite.
Carrey is known for his political and pop-culture relevant sketches, which are usually negative and aimed at Donald Trump.
However, Thursday morning the "Dumb and Dumber" star paid homage to Franklin with a sketch, and wrote, "Look how beautiful a life can be. Thank you, Aretha!"
The art immediately came under scrutiny from many fans who asked, "Why is she white?" Carrey's Twitter feed turned into a debate over artistic expression vs accuracy, with other fans defending Carrey's right to portray Franklin however he wants.
One person had an interesting explanation for the lightened look: "She’s moving towards the light from what I can gather, glow on her face makes her look white."
Others ... decided to take action into their own hands.
