Rose McGowan and Asia Argento are two of Harvey Weinstein‘s most prominent accusers but McGowan is putting some distance between them now after allegations of sexual assault against Argento have come to light.
Argento allegedly paid $380,000 to her own accuser who claimed she assaulted him when he was just 17 years old, reports the New York Times. Jimmy Bennett claims the incident happened years earlier in a California hotel room.
In an early morning tweet on Monday, McGowan wrote of the allegations, “I got to know Asia Argento ten months ago. Our commonality is the shared pain of being assaulted by Harvey Weinstein. My heart is broken. I will continue my work on behalf of victims everywhere.”
McGowan and Argento became friends after they both came forward with accusations of sexual assault against Weinstein. The two joined forces in Rome earlier this year for a women’s parade on International Women’s Day.
The two grew so close that McGowan flew to Rome to be by Argento’s side after the death of her boyfriend, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain.
