Ahead of the single's release on Friday, Cyrus is offering her perspective to her fans about its origin and her thoughts on the track's place in her musical canon.

The promotion for "Used To Be Young" has been pretty fruitful so far; Cyrus has channeled various looks of the PG-13 variety in photoshoots and on billboards.

Cyrus began teasing her new single earlier this month, featuring eye-catching photos and cryptic lyrics on billboards around the world. Fan theories concerning Cyrus' latest career venture on social media were later proved to be correct when she released a promotional trailer last week.

The Disney alumna also made headlines after news broke relating to her pal Selena Gomez's latest musical news: The duo are both releasing new music on Friday!

Gomez brought throwback vibes to her Insta-story late last week when she referenced their fictional "Hannah Montana" rivalry, according to Entertainment Tonight. Cyrus also acknowledged the news on social media!

Cyrus took to social media to post the song's lyrics. She shared further detail about the song's conception to both Instagram and X.

The "Angels Like You" songstress wrote, "Used To Be Young. August 25th. These lyrics were written almost 2 years ago at the beginning of my ESV. It was at a time I felt misunderstood. I have spent the last 18 months painting a sonic picture of my perspective to share with you. The time has arrived to release a song that I could perfect forever. Although my work is done, this song will continue to write itself everyday. The fact it remains unfinished is a part of its beauty. That is my life at this moment ….. unfinished yet complete." She ends her letter by signing off with "Sincerely, Miley"

The chorus seems to reference Cyrus' perception within the public eye when she was younger.

The lyrics read, "I know I used to be crazy/I know I used to be fun/You say I used to be wild/I say I used to be young."

The song continues, "You tell me time has done changed me/That's fine, I've had a good run/I know I used to be crazy/That's cause I used to be young."
