A new social media app is taking Hollywood by storm, and it might just be the next Twitter or Threads.

'The Hive' has shot out of a cannon in the past few months, gathering a large millennial crowd of users to its platform. The name is becoming commonplace in high-level Hollywood meetings, with several A-listers in negotiations for collaborations.

Of course, Twitter and Threads have dominated the headlines recently, but this new chat platform might be the next big thing.

The Hive is a live chat social media app created by tech entrepreneur Laura Maggiore. After downloading it, and creating a profile in a matter of minutes, users instantly have dozens of live chats they can participate in relating to dating, entertainment, current events, fitness, and even astrology --  with other people from all over the world. The Hive is currently available in the App Store for people ages 17 and up and is compatible with both Apple and Android phones.

We're told that the current demographics for the app are wide, but it seems that millennials have especially taken a liking to it, and the reason is great. It might have something to do with its clear “AOL Instant Messenger” feel that directly triggers nostalgia. If you spend a few minutes playing with it, anyone in their 30s can feel The Hive’s user interface and design take them back to their early days of social media.

Interestingly, the new platform also takes into consideration today's issues with social media. We're told Laura and her team have gone to great lengths to ensure their software prevents bullying and harassment and they have zero tolerance for it in their chat rooms. This can be a tall task, with Facebook and Twitter taking a similar stance.

But, additionally, the topics chosen for the chatrooms, while universal to most age groups, are very inclusive to all backgrounds, orientations, beliefs, and socio-economic statuses.

In other words, Maggiore and the team at The Hive are clearly prioritizing equality and representation.

As you know, for the last several years the world’s most prominent psychiatrists, tech developers, and sociologists have warned about the detrimental effects current social media giants have on our collective mental health and development.

The bottom line is if The Hive continues to garner support from millennials, and fights the negative effects of social media, it might be a huge disrupter in the business.
