Kody Brown Doesn't Plan To Marry Again
In a recent chat with People Magazine, Kody Brown opened up about life after losing three wives. He and more of the "Sister Wives" cast talked about how their idea of plural marriage has changed in recent years.
Kody was once "spiritually married" to multiple women where they performed all the duties of marriage without the legal aspect. His wives were Christine, Janelle, Robyn, and Meri. Today, Robyn is the only wife still with Kody, and she seems determined to work out their marriage.
Now that he's monogamous, Kody says his plans for the future have changed. He said, "The idea of ever marrying again after the experience I've had, there's no reason for me to do that. I feel like I've hit the bottom of a deep swimming pool, but I've pushed off and am headed to the surface."
Kody Brown Still Supports Plural Marriage
During the interview, Kody spoke about how plural marriage is actually "extremely difficult." Despite insisting that he never wants another wife, the reality TV star is still an advocate for polygamy and plural relationships.
Kody explained that when there's religious backing for a way of life, people following it tend to "struggle with God" and their partners. He said this is actually a growth opportunity, but not everyone can handle it. Kody added, "So, I believe that plural marriage is about your growth, about self-development, about finding that goodness through difficulty."
Despite his support, Kody has previously questioned his belief in polygamy on the TLC reality show. After his breakup with Christine, the 54-year-old said he started having questions about why he got into plural marriage.
He said it was "a weird thing to be getting left." Kody added, "It's made me question my faith, and especially question my religion. The message that we had to the world about functional polygamy seems so dysfunctional now."
Their Idea Of Plural Marriage Wasn't The Reality
Kody and his ex-wives explained to People that their blissful idea of plural marriage was very different from their reality. They had to deal with constant jealousy and fights between the wives, their children feeling neglected in several ways, and the legal backlash of their polyamorous situation.
Janelle said, "I went in with these ideas about how idyllic plural marriage was going to be — but it was really hard. Meri and I clashed on everything. Kody and I were amazing when it was just us, but the family dynamic was really tough."
The Brown family was together for a long time until Christine left her "spiritual marriage" to Kody in 2021. They had been in their relationship for over 25 years by that time. In December 2022, Janelle was the next to leave the family, and a month after, Meri announced she'd officially split with Kody.
Kody Brown And His Ex-Wives Are Trying To Move On
Since their breakup, Brown has had to adjust to life with just one wife, Robyn, and significant distance from his children and ex-wives. After saying he left like he'd hit bottom, the 54-year-old said he's now "headed to the surface" to move on with life.
Kody said he knows their split has caused his family "a lot of heartbreak" and admitted his fault for how badly he handled his emotions. He said, "We're not going back to where we were. And I want to get to a place where I'm accepting that with a heart full of grace and love. We're all seeking happiness and we will all find it."
Kody isn't the only one moving on with life, his ex-wives are too, and they're staying positive as they rediscover themselves. Meri told People her focus now is on "keeping the doors open and saying yes." Janelle said she has "no regrets" about her time with Kody because that experience "gave us the life that we have now."
