NFL star Ja'Marr Chase is currently locked in a bitter custody battle over his 7-month-old son, Ja'Marr Chase Jr.

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, the mother of the child filed a case in Los Angeles County Courts attempting to collect financial support for the child.

In the filing, the woman is asking for the wide-receiver to "pay 100 percent of all expenses related to the said minor child’s health care, including medical, dental, vision, and mental health," including any "expenses are not covered by (his) health insurance." It specifies that the NFL actually has a great benefits package for players and their families.

Now, it should be noted that the mother of the child included a "prenatal paternity" DNA test that appears to confirm Chase is the father of the newborn.

"I am requesting sole physical and sole legal custody," she says in the filing, pointing out that the baby has lived with her full-time since his birth.

As for the money, she lays out the obvious, which is that the NFL star is one of the highest-paid players in the league. "Ja’Marr signed a four-year $30,819,641 contract, in addition to a signing bonus of $19,774,284. His average annual salary is $7,704,910, or $642,076 per month," she told the court. Although an exact request for monthly support isn't given, it appears she wants him to cover her expenses.

The breakdown of expenses is mindblowing. First, she claims that $15,000 is necessary for rent or a mortgage for housing. Second, she says her bills for "Entertainment, Gifts, and Vacations" is $5,000 a month. In all, she claims to have $57,400 in monthly expenses.

At the moment, she claims her only source of income is Government support of about $200 a month.

Interestingly, the woman is asking for Chase to cover a vehicle for transporting the child. But, not just any normal car. She is asking for him to "provide automobile transportation for the said minor child by purchasing and/or leasing and paying 100 percent of the full insurance coverage and registration In California for an SUV automobile either a Range Rover, Mercedes G. Wagon, or Tesla."

As for Ja'Marr's position, besides having to get ready for his first NFL games, he is pointing out that a California court is not the proper jurisdiction for this case. Specifically, he is accusing his baby mama of having the baby in CA because of its child support laws. Without being too legal, CA is a state where the collector of child support has an easier time getting larger amounts.

Of course, Chase currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio (he plays for the Bengals) and claims she is a resident of Texas.

He writes, "We have one minor child together, Ja’Marr Amir Chase (“Ja’Marr Jr.”). Neither (she) nor I have ever lived in California. She has lived in Texas for her entire life. Despite this, (she) went to California on a temporary basis and stayed with her brother prior to giving birth to Ja’Marr Jr."

Adding, "On January 16, 2023, Ja’Marr Jr. was born in Glendale, California. It was (her) intention to give birth in California for the purpose of obtaining a higher child support award as the child support laws are more favorable in California than in Texas."

The NFL star points out that he has been supporting his child the entire time, and has even leased a home for his family.

"When (she) was pregnant, I set up an Amazon wish list of items for her and Ja’Marr Jr. including a crib, changing table, car seat, high chairs, diapers, and several other baby-related items. Each of these items was to be delivered to her residence in Texas. I also fully furnished the apartment for her," he states.

Now, the decision will be up to a judge.

This isn't the first time Ja'Marr has been in the news this week outside of the football field. The wide receiver filed a restraining order against a woman who he claims was a one-night stand, who is now threatening him and his family. But, that's a whole other story...
