Sandra Bullock Hates That 'The Blind Side' Is Now 'Tainted'
Sandra Bullock is reportedly devastated by the recent claims questioning the authenticity of her Oscar-winning role in "The Blind Side."
Retired NFL star Michael Oher, the film's real-life subject, filed a lawsuit accusing his "adoptive" parents, Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy (played by Bullock), of swindling him by keeping profits from the 2009 movie. Allegedly, the Tuohys' misled Oher into signing a document that allowed them to profit as conservators, not adoptive parents.
A source close to Bullock shared that the "Bird Box" star feels the film's integrity has been compromised, leading to a shift in how people perceive its original intention.
Speaking to Daily Mail, the insider claimed, "She hates that such a wonderful story, a spectacular movie, and a spectacular time in her life now has been tainted. Now people won't watch it, and if they do, they will react completely differently to its original intention."
The source added, "There was so much hard work put into the film that they all thought was the truth, and now that has been questioned, it just upsets Sandra to no end that a time in her life that was so special is now shadowed with a completely different perspective."
Is Sandra Bullock's Oscar Award At Risk?
In response to trolls suggesting that Bullock should return her Best Actress Oscar due to the recent controversy, her fans swiftly rallied to her defense on social media.
Supporters affirmed that she rightfully "earned her Oscar" and emphasized that she couldn't have possibly known about the situation. A source close to Bullock shared with the publication that the star isn't focusing much on the online chatter.
According to the insider, she views it as trivial compared to more significant concerns, stating, "There are so many other important things to worry about over that."
Sandra Bullock Recently Lost Her Longtime Partner
The recent news compounds the challenging period Bullock is facing as her partner Bryan Randall, 57, recently passed away due to a concealed struggle with ALS. Amid this emotional turmoil, sources revealed the actress, who was seen out on Monday for the first time since his passing, is putting on "a strong face" as both her personal and professional spheres are shaken.
"Sandra is putting up a strong face and a strong front as it has been a rough patch for her emotionally with the loss of Bryan, and now she is heartbroken in a different way with all the fallout from the Michael Oher news," the insider revealed to Daily Mail.
While emotions are running high, the source added that Bullock "is figuring out how to move forward from it all, it is just going to take a little bit, but emotions are very high right now for Sandra, and she is looking forward to better days ahead."
Michael Oher Files A Legal Petition Against The Tuohys
The whole debacle started when ex-NFL player Oher initiated a shocking legal action related to the profits from "The Blind Side" and the truth behind his "adoption," leaving fans of the film stunned.
A legal petition obtained by ESPN reads, "The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher."
It continues, "Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys."
The legal filing seeks to end the conservatorship, stop the unauthorized use of the former NFL player's identity, demand an accurate financial account of earnings the Tuohys made using Oher’s name, distribute equitable profits, and request compensation for damages.
