On Saturday, The Blast looked at the fan conversation surrounding the second song off of "Lover." A few days later, "Cruel Summer" has reached a particular milestone- but not the one you might think!
"Cruel Summer" has made its way into pop culture over the last year with its inclusion on the soundtrack to "The Summer I Turned Pretty," the Amazon Prime adaptation of Jenny Han's hit young adult romance book series.

The "Karma" singer recently spoke to the audience at a recent 'Eras Tour' stop about her appreciation for "Cruel Summer."
She would tell the Pittsburgh audience, "The weirdest, most magical thing is happening... it's never happened to me the whole time I've been doing this," Swift explained. "'Cruel Summer' is a song I just played a second ago; I don't know if you remember. We had a blast, yeah? The one where we all screamed," she continued.
"Cruel Summer" was on the 'Lover' album. That album came out four years ago," Swift explained. "And I just need to tell you something: 'Cruel Summer,' that song was my pride and joy on that album. "You have conversations before the album comes out. Everybody around weighs in on what they think should be singles. I was finally about to have my favorite song become the single- off of 'Lover,'' she revealed.
"I'm not trying to blame the global pandemic that we had," Swift went on. "but that is something that happened from 'Cruel Summer' from ever becoming a single. No one understands how this is happening, but you guys have streamed 'Cruel Summer' so much in 2023..."
She would later thank the fans for contributing to the song's newfound success. (per Billboard)
