Kevin Costner's divorce from Christine Baumgartner has taken another dramatic turn.
Despite having a marriage that lasted almost a decade, things have gotten pretty ugly between the superstar actor and his now-estranged wife since she filed for divorce in May. Not only did the "Yellowstone" actor claim that Baumgartner had rendered him homeless by refusing to leave the home they once shared, but he alleged that most of his ex's expenses are used for her benefit instead of the necessities of their three kids.
Kevin Costner's Legal Team Has Accused Christine Baumgartner Of Intentionally Slowing Down Their Divorce Process
In the latest round of drama between Costner and Baumgartner, the actor has accused his ex-wife of deliberately trying to prolong their already tense divorce proceedings.
According to new court documents, the 68-year-old's legal team slammed the American-German beauty's assertion that she did not understand the terms of their prenuptial agreement when she signed it. Calling it "gamesmanship of the worst sort," the legal reps wrote:
"Christine avoids answering many of the Requests for Admission ('RFAs') based on the claim that the ordinary words used, words like 'understood' and 'negotiation' are too vague."
As far as they are concerned, the 49-year-old "cannot admit or deny an RFA because she does not understand the word 'understood.'" In a filing from early July, the "Dances with Wolves" star cited the prenuptial agreement signed upon their 2014 marriage.
It stipulated that in the event of divorce, Baumgartner would vacate any separate property family residence within 30 days of the divorce petition filing, granting the father-of-seven exclusive use of his individual property residences.
In her response, Baumgartner conveyed her refusal to leave the property unless her ex-husband agreed to her request for child support amounting to $248,000 monthly. Although she has already moved out of the Santa Barbara property, the situation unfolded when she was instructed to vacate the residence by July 31.
On his end, the "Let Him Go" actor expressed his willingness to provide $51,940 monthly for child support. However, a judge ruled that he should pay $129,000 per month in child support temporarily, pending a hearing in November to address the matter further.
While Costner's legal representatives assert that he has been proactive in advancing their divorce proceedings swiftly, they alleged that Baumgartner has consistently impeded the process by employing various obstacles in an "unjustified" attempt to "avoid answering this discovery."
The docs added that the handbag designer's "refusal to answer these RFAs is just a stalling tactic designed to avoid admitting there the parties did not enter into any transmutation agreements."
In case you missed it, the mother-of-three had previously responded to the Academy Award winner's emergency court filing to stop her from taking items out of their former joint home. In the legal papers obtained by The Blast, Baumgartner asserted that she just wanted to take a few personal things out of the beachfront estate, including exercise equipment.
"There is no mystery as to what I plan to remove. Kevin will not be harmed by my removal of any of the items I have listed, and certainly not personal items such as my peloton bike and family heirlooms," she penned to that effect.
The 'Primetime Live' Star Moved Out Of Her Ex Partner’s Home Ahead Of The July 31 Deadline
When Baumgartner finally moved out of Costner's house last month, multiple outlets acquired photos that featured moving trucks leaving the $145 million property she and her three children shared with the actor during their 18-year marriage. As The Blast reported then, one insider also confirmed that she had indeed relocated, stating:
"Christine is following the legal advice per the prenup and is vacating the family house. [She] will stay at a smaller house on the property that's been used as a staff quarter."
Speaking more on the situation, the source declared that it was a "temporary solution" for Baumgartner, who was still searching for another house. As it turned out, she had decided to remain in the Santa Barbara area to not "disrupt the kids' lives" since they would be "back at school in the fall with their friends."
"Christine is trying to keep everything as normal as possible. Her sole focus is the kids," the source additionally explained.
