Mac Miller Death Investigation Focused on 'History With Drugs,' Including Cocaine & Opiates

The investigation into how Mac Miller died is hinging on the findings of his toxicology report, and those closest to him told investigators the star had a long history with substance abuse, including using cocaine and opiates.
Law enforcement sources tell The Blast Miller's assistant, who initially found him unresponsive, was interviewed about the specifics surrounding the time leading up to his death. The man explained he showed up Friday, like he did most days, to "get him up" and begin the day when he discovered the 26-year-old unresponsive in bed.
We're told the assistant told investigators he spoke with Miller around 10:30 PM the night before, and he seemed "totally fine." He said there was no reason to be alarmed after speaking with the star.
During the interview, we're told it was revealed Miller had a "history with alcohol and drug abuse," and specifically mentioned the rapper was a user of cocaine, opiates and prescription medications. Miller had been open about his substance abuse in the past, but had believed to been working on staying away from hard drugs.
In fact, even French Montana once shot a documentary with Miller and tried to give the rapper advice on staying away from drinking Lean, a mixture of promethazine and codeine.

As for what specific type of medication could have been taken, we're told investigators were informed the "Small Worlds" rapper was known to take hydrocodone, and also "non-prescription opiates." Codeine is classified as an opiate, but at this point investigators do not know which drugs, or combo of drugs, he may have consumed the night before his death.
The Blast broke the story, Miller's death has been ruled deferred until the toxicology tests are returned to the medical examiner. However, sources close to the investigation tell us during the star's autopsy, tests were conducted to determine if internal organs had been damaged from prior drug use.
Miller's body has been released to his family and a funeral is expected in the coming days. During a memorial in Pittsburgh, Mac's hometown, his grandmother spoke on the love and support the family has been getting from the community since his death.
