Amy Duggar Says Josh Should Never Be Released
It's been a couple of months since Josh Duggar was convicted of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse materials and sentenced to 12 years plus in jail. He's since tried to appeal, but the conviction was upheld at an August 7th trial. Josh's earliest possible release date is likely October 2032.
His cousin, Amy Duggar, has now told the Daily Mail that Josh should never be released. She condemned his "horrific" behavior and called him a "monster." Amy said she doesn't believe Josh can "be rehabilitated from such sick stuff" and should remain behind bars.
She said, "The children are so innocent and it just breaks my heart to think that someone would want to destroy that in a little toddler or a child. It breaks my heart, truly it breaks my heart. So, I dread that day because that's another monster that's loose."
Amy Duggar Hopes Josh's Wife & Kids Are Getting Therapy
Amy was asked about her opinion on Josh's wife, Anna's decision to stand by him despite the conviction. The mother of one explained that she thinks Anna believes in Josh's innocence and doesn't want anyone's help right now.
She said, "I think it takes so long to just even process what has happened, and how many scandals have come out, and how much heart-breaking news she's had to endure. I don't blame her for not making any kind of sudden move, because she's probably just stricken with so much anxiety and so much hurt."
Amy shared that she's made it clear to Anna that she loves her and will help her when she's ready. She shared that she's hopeful Anna and the kids are getting "therapy and true counseling," which will help them move forward and protect themselves.
She added, "But you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped, and that is so hard for me as a momma and someone that knows her, to not lose my mind about, because it's so hard for me to understand why you wouldn't take sudden moves."
Amy Duggar Was Shocked By Her Cousin's Arrest
Amy confirmed to the Daily Mail that she never suspected Josh's inclinations to child pornography. She shared that his April 2021 arrest became known to her "like the rest of the world on national television" and was very shocking news.
She said, "I was texting him two weeks before he was arrested. It's just insane how someone can truly live a double life. I honestly just cried and cried, and cried some more until there were no tears left. I was not okay."
Amy admitted that her cousin's scandal deeply affected her for "months afterwards" and hasn't truly left her. The "horrific" news impacted her "whole demeanor" because she'd never dreamed such a thing would ever happen.
She Would Never Let Josh Duggar Near Her Son
Amy shared that even after Josh's eventual release, there's "no way in hell" she'd ever let him anywhere near her son, Jaxton. However, the former reality star said she couldn't determine if her cousins and family would do the same.
She was then asked if she thinks her cousin Jill Duggar would keep her family away from Josh, to which she replied, "honestly have no idea." Jill has announced a new memoir on her experience of Josh's scandal, releasing September 12th. It's titled "Counting The Cost," and Amy says she hasn't received a copy but thinks it'll have more shocking revelations.
The entire Duggar family was recently the subject of a docuseries titled "Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets." The explosive doc by Amazon Prime took a deep dive into the family's cult-like religious views and doctrines and how they affected them.
