While many bargain shoppers have been flocking to Temu to buy insanely discounted items, some TikTok creators are sharing warnings about the popular site. From fraudulent bank account charges to other concerning issues, the message is coming across loud and clear - think twice before shopping at Temu.
TikTok Creators Are Sharing Their Horror Stories After Shopping On Temu
A TikToker who goes by Dimples Queen on the app recently shared her horror story after shopping on Temu.
"It's been one week since I've ordered from Temu, and 48 hours ago, I found out that my credit card information had been stolen," she said. "American Express is trying to contact me about fraudulent charges."
She then shared a screenshot of what those charges looked like.
"Now, I don't know what that company is, but I think it's funny that they listed a phone number to give them a call back. And they probably did that because they know that it's fraudulent and when you call, they're probably gonna ask you for your details," she continued. "So I absolutely did not call them. I called American Express."
She then shared a stitch of two other creators who also had a similar issue with Temu. She said that right after her fraudulent charges showed up, her friend sent her an article about Temu selling your information to the dark web.
"Right after that, I saw two other creators talk about how their information was stolen shortly after shopping on Temu," she continued. "So, since I have 85% of women that follow me, and I'm sure all of y'all like cute, cheap clothes, I'm just making this video as a warning."
She went on to say that while she's not saying that it was Temu who stole her information, the timing of it and the article that she read made her want to warn others of the possibility.
The Creator She Talked About Also Shared Her Story
Shyla, another TikTok creator, who Queen Dimples briefly spoke about in her video, also shared her Temu story. Her video starts out as a stitch of another creator talking about how her bank details were sold to the black market by Temu.
"Currently, I'm going through the same thing. I don't know if it was because of Temu, but the situation happened right after I made some purchases from Temu," she explained. "And I was already sketch about the website but I've heard good stuff about it."
She continued to explain that when she checked her bank account, her balance was $1, so she called her bank immediately. She explained how the charges were at first broken down in smaller increments, but then $500 gone.
"This is not a joke," she continued. "You have to be careful."
Shyla's video received more than 6.6 million views and got tons of comments. Many wrote in the comments that when buying from sites like Temu, you should use AfterPay, Klarna, Paypal or others similar to them.
"I used to think my mom was crazy for going to the store to put money on a bluebird card just to use to order online. Now I get it 😅," one person wrote.
Another added, "I work at one of the most important banks in the USA on the fraud department and yessssss I can confirm Temu is a scam do not use it‼️‼️"
