Lahaina's burning is a huge tragedy. More and more footage from locals in the thick of it as we speak is revealing upsetting, depressing conditions.
Lahaina Is No More
The beautiful island of Maui has essentially been burnt to nothing. Not only is this shocking but there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for the massive fire and destruction tearing through the homes and businesses of the locals.
In the latest videos released today, it showed locals escaping to the water to get relief from the fire raging behind them. Many jumped in screaming in fear with the clothes on their back. People are hanging onto surfboards to stay afloat.
The mass devastation is also being captured by aerial shots that reveal burnt-to-crisp boat docks, stores, cars, palm trees all the random things you don’t think of when a mass fire tears through somewhere.
Oprah Showed Up
The one and only Oprah Winfrey showed up and got to work. She was spotted at a local shelter being of service to those who needed anything. The millionaire was fluffing pillows and placing them behind people’s heads.
She was spotted with blankets, and some tweeted out that she was handing out snacks and food to people in the shelter. Oprah is no stranger to helping others. She usually offer donations, but everyone once in a while, she gets her hands in there.
Oprah visited War Memorial gym, Maui. Interacted and helped #Maui wildfire survivors.

Other celebs and reality stars have spoken out about the horrible situation in Maui. Jennifer Aniston has shared how people can help and where she donated to. Kyle Richards is trying to fan her own flames away but still shared how she donated and how others can too.
Before And After Images Of Lahaina
The images shared online also showed the before and after of Lahaina. It was shocking to see some of the favorite local spots reduced to a burnt structures only still standing because of the few pieces of material that the fire couldn’t damage.
One local shared on the news that way more help is needed.
“Wanted to give an update as I have several first responder friends down in Lahaina tonight. There's body's all over town and in the water that have not been accounted for and reported yet. So many people never made it out," they said. "There are possibly hundreds dead and even more missing.”
Another local commented on the video and confirmed, “This is what's really going on in Lahaina Maui... Hundreds have lost their lives and many (that didn't survive) still out in the ocean. Just heartbreaking! Praying.”
Another follower shared images of the town hotspot, Fleetwoods, completely burnt out. “Front street Fleetwoods. Gone. Send help. @POTUS,” the local wrote as they begged for help.
POTUS Is Trying
Many Twitter users are also asking President Joe Biden for help but some believe he is already doing what he can.
“Lahaina, Maui is my home. You don't get to speak for me. Joe Biden has ordered all available federal assets on the Islands to help with response. He can do that AND help Ukraine. We can do both in the US. I stand with Ukraine AND I am #MauiStrong. And you are despicable,” wrote one follower who blasted another follower for accusing Biden of not doing enough and sending money to Ukraine instead.
Meanwhile, others are sharing their theories on how the fire spread so quickly and got this out of control. Just hours before the fire started, one user recorded all the debris along the sides of the roads.
“For everyone asking how the #lahaina fire could've happened so quickly:
"Imagine that debris being on fire in 80mph winds. This was 9:30 am trying to leave Lahaina... several hours before. This video may be used by any and all media. Spread the word to get help to #maui!”
Here’s to hoping this tragedy does not get any worse.
