Shania Twain Is Praying For Celina Dion's Health
During a newly released interview with Billboard Magazine, Shania Twain spoke about Celine Dion and her health issues. She shared her worries about Dion's health and said she hopes to "be able to connect with her at some point."
She said, "I think it's gotta be so difficult, and I know — only speaking from my experience — how horrifying it is to think that something is preventing you from singing, or interfering with that joy in your life. So I just pray that she is able to overcome it and she will be up there [on stage] singing for us all again."
Twain further gushed about Dion and her successful music career. She said she's "such a fan" of the "My Heart Will Go On" singer's voice and said Dion is "one-of-a-kind, extraordinary vocalist and entertainer."
Shania Twain Has Had Multiple Health Issues
Twain herself has had her fair share of health issues, such as nerve damage from her battle with Lyme disease. The "You're Still The One" singer also once had surgery on her vocal cords, which affected her ability to speak for about three weeks.
During an interview with Lorraine Kelly, she spoke about her nerve damage. She said, "It was quite depressing. Devastating to imagine that I would never sing again, even speaking, really, you know has always been difficult."
Twain has also been open about her asthma experiences and spoke to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. The singer revealed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, she had a "life-threatening" asthma bout.
She spoke about the experience and said, per Fox News, "I had to be air-vaced by a special team…Nobody else would fly me to the hospital… You can't just pick up a COVID patient and fly them to a hospital."
Celine Dion Revealed Her Stiff Person Diagnosis In 2022
Dion first revealed her Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) diagnosis in December 2022. The singer got emotional as she shared the bees in a video on Instagram. There had been rumors about her health issues for several months, which worsened when she postponed her tour.
She said, "As you know, I've always been an open book. And I wasn't ready to say anything before — but I'm ready now. I've been dealing with problems with my health for a long time. And it's been really difficult for me to face these challenges and talk about everything that I've been going through."
SPS is an incurable autoimmune disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord. It affects people by causing slow stiffness of the muscles and rigidity in the legs and body. Dion explained that the disease "affects something like one in a million people."
The "Beauty and the Beast" singer has been very private since she revealed her diagnosis. She was forced to postpone her 2022 performances to 2024 and eventually canceled all the dates of her European Courage Tour.
One Of Shania Twain's Hits Was Meant For Celine Dion
During her Billboard interview, Twain revealed she originally wrote one of her biggest songs, "From This Moment," for Dion. The singer said she initially wanted the "The Power of Love" singer's vocals for the track.
Twain said, "I wrote that with her in mind, and I really wanted her — my wish was that I would write it and she would record it. It would have been such an honor."
She continued, " But my husband and producer at the time [Robert "Mutt" Lange] was like, 'No, this really needs to be on your record.' And I'm so grateful that I did record it."
