Geena Davis Says Her Ex Is Too Smart to Think They Were Legally Married

Geena Davis believes her ex is a highly-educated man who should have known that a marriage license is a requirement for marriage and wants his divorce case against her dismissed.

As The Blast first reported, Davis maintains that Reza Jarrahy should not be allowed to file for divorce because the couple was never legally married. She says they never obtained a marriage license and kept their finances separate during the entirety of their relationship.

In new legal documents obtained by The Blast, Davis explains that since she has been married before, she is "aware that a marriage license is required to become married."

She says of her ex, "Reza is one of the most experienced and well-regarded craniofacial surgeons in Southern California, licensed himself, with over 10 years of post-graduate education ... I think it is unreasonable for him to claim that he did not know that a marriage license is a requirement of marriage."

Geena Davis also refutes Jarrahy's claim that their "wedding" was officially presided over by a Catholic priest. She explains, "Father Smith expressly made clear to us that while he would participate, he would not be able to officiate or perform a binding Catholic ceremony because neither of was Catholic.

The "Beetlejuice" star adds, "Father Smith made sure we understood that he would not be able to say, 'I now pronounce you husband and wife.'"

Davis also claims that she and Jarrahy were also aware that his father's participation in the ceremony was also not official.

"It was my understanding," Davis says, "that we were not becoming married through [Jarrahy's father's] participation."

Davis concludes her declaration by saying, "Every day of our relationship Rexa and I made the choice not to be married by choosing not get a marriage license."

A judge has yet to rule.

As The Blast first reported, Jarrahy filed documents last week saying he is outraged that Geena Davis would "lie" to the court and say they were never married. He provided to the court what he believes is proof they are married, which included actual pictures of the wedding and reception.

Reza acknowledges they did not get a license or file taxes together as "a financial strategy orchestrated by Geena and her business manager."

He claims they told him that "identifying as 'not married' would benefit Geena's tax burden" and that his taxes were done by them.
