To honor Pamela Anderson for her birthday, Playboy held a contest on their digital creator platform to choose the best re-creation of her iconic magazine covers and photo spreads. Thousands of submissions came in and eight bombshells were chosen as winners.

The contest kicked off on Anderson’s birthday, July 1, and ended on July 11. Anderson, who first appeared in the magazine in 1989, holds the record for the most covers with 14. The contest had models trying their best to channel their inner Anderson to recreate some of her famous shots.

Some of the winners had time to sit down with The Blast to talk about their winning photo, the inspiration behind it and their modeling careers.

Kennan chose the photo she did to recreate specifically because of its natural sex appeal.

“Any shoots in nature allow us to be wild, our true selves. That’s what is sexy to me. We are our true selves in nature. Nature let’s us be vulnerable, fresh and sensual with zero judgment,” she explained to The Blast exclusively.

“Pamela really inspired me since I was young as a Canadian girl from a small town just like her. This photo of Pamela takes place in a very natural woods-esque background, completely right up my alley. I really see the art that went into this specific photoshoot of Pamela’s. She is so naturally beautiful, she has an essence that is so true to her being. The photo of her really does show that. Thus inspiring me to recreate it.”

Keenan wanted to get the pose exactly right, but said she couldn’t get it as perfectly as Anderson. But she was able to mimic the background pretty well and her black cowboy hat.

As for the inspiration for the shoot, Keenan said it came from growing up being in awe of Playboy and always wanting to be a model. She also said that Anderson inspired her much of her life. When she found out about the contest, she just knew she had to enter.

“I started a Playboy account just this year and it has brought me so much confidence,” she said. “I never thought I’d see the day where I’d be able to model. Only ever dreamed of it. Now it’s reality.”

Mia Jones-Davis, Norman, Oklahoma

Jones-Davis recreated a photo of Anderson wearing a man’s shirt and tie.

“I think there is something really sexy about that,” she told The Blast. “I went into my local thrift store in search of the perfect shirt and tie. I wanted to make sure the tie was the proper 90’s width, like Pam’s. I had a vision of it right away, so it didn’t take long to get the look I wanted. I told my photographer Rick we needed that ‘golden’ look and we just channeled Pamela and ran with it.”

Jones-Davis isn’t a first generation Playboy bunny. Her mom, Lesli Jones, was part of Playboy’s Golden Age. She was one of Playboy’s “Girls of the Big 8” in 1982.

“She was also a semi finalist in Playboy’s 30th anniversary search,” she said. “I have grown up with Playboy. My mom always told us how proud she was to be in the magazine. She still has lots of Playboys from the 80s and 90s and I have been trying to learn from them. Playboy has always projected that women are beautiful, it’s always tasteful and artistic. My mom says she feels immortalized in her pictorial.”

Laetitia Blasi, Cannes, France

Blasi chose the specific cover that she did because it “showcases women in a natural state, emanating sensuality and strength. It’s the epitome of a strong woman.”

Ever since she was young, she’s been a big fan of Playboy.

“I’ve always dreamed of becoming a Bunny, so when I saw the contest announcement, I absolutely wanted to take part," she said. "For me, this contest is the beginning of my Playboy dream, and what’s more, with a cover by Pamela Anderson, my star from the 90s.”

To recreate her photo, she used a white background, a flash, a black thong, and a talented photographer.

Tia Goossen, Los Angeles, California

Goossen chose to recreate Anderson’s classic red Cadillac shoot because she knew someone with the same exact car.

“Recreating this photo was a lot harder than it looked. We had to get the proper pose down, my hair was falling flat, the sun was going down, the photographer was lying on the floor, my knee was cramping up,” she said. “This took a total of an hour and a half to recreate, which included prepping the lights, camera, test angles, etc.”

Trying her hand at the contest was a no brainer for Goossen as Anderson has always inspired her.

“She advocated for women to express their sexuality and live life fearlessly,” she said. “Not to mention, her beauty is just out of this world. It didn’t take much convincing for me to hop on this contest as soon as I could.”

Modeling isn’t new to Goossen. She’s been modeling for a few years and has experience with commercials, print, runway, athletics, editorial, swimwear, intimates, fit modeling and more.

“I’ve worked with many prestigious brands and have explores several different avenues when it comes to modeling,” she said. “I like being versatile and trying new things, which is why I have a passion for creative directing, film, and performing arts.”

Breyanah Mason, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Mason said she chose a photo to recreate that showcases her confidence and empowers her while embracing her body and promoting body positivity.

“It wasn’t difficult recreating the images at all. It was actually quite easy and fun, finding each piece and putting everything together to create a finished look,” she said. “I’ve been a published freelance model for seven years now, so this was a piece of cake, plus, my photographer was very helpful and cooperative when it came to the photoshoot.”

She viewed the contest as a way to serve as a “stepping stone” for more opportunities. She also felt that participating in the contest was a personal goal and achievement for her regardless of what the outcome would be.

Mason has seven years of modeling experience with brands such as Dollskill, Nike, Fila, Adidas, South Pole Brand, Puma and more.

“As far as my background with Playboy, the journey has just begun,” she told The Blast. “I have a lot more content to put out and am ready to work on some creative Playboy inspired photoshoots.

Nikki Mahan, Florida

Mahan chose the photo she did to recreate because it was one of the first Playboy covers she remembers seeing.

“It’s so iconic, and I love the beachy early 2000s vibe,” she said. “Thankfully my only challenge was balancing in those platform heels. All I had to do was pose in front of a white screen and @fart.pdf on Instagram made this photo come to life.”

Mahan decided to enter the contest because she finds inspiration from Anderson being the face of so many famous pictorials. “It’s also a great excuse for a creative photo shoot.”
