Stephen Amell Calls Ongoing SAG-AFTRA Strike 'Myopic'
Stephen Amell's perspective on the ongoing strike has raised eyebrows and divided opinions as it's in stark contrast with over 97.91% of his fellow actors, per the Daily Mail. During his recent appearance at the GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, the actor expressed concerns that the strike action may be narrow-sighted.
"Yeah, so I feel like I'm insulated in Hollywood, 'cause that's where I live, like all the stereotypes that exist," Amell began. "I feel like a lot of people in this room aren't aware of the strike."
He went on, "I support my union, I do, and I stand with them, but I do not support striking, I don't. I think it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating."

"I think the thinking as it pertains to shows like the show that I'm on (Heels), that premiered last night, I think it's myopic," Amell concluded.
The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) represents over 160,000 professionals in the entertainment industry, including actors, broadcasters, and recording artists. The strike was called by the union amid disputes over contract negotiations with major production studios, demanding improved wages, better working conditions, and greater job security for its members.
Fans Blast Stephen Amell For His Take On SAG Strike
Amell found himself at the center of a social media storm as several fans took to the comment section of his latest post on Instagram to express their displeasure over his recent stance on the SAG-AFTRA strike.
"So f**king out of touch," a fan slammed Amell. "A guy who was the lead of a TV for years can now say he doesn't support strikes so everyone around making the shows and movies gets fair pay. Your privilege is showing. Tool."
"Your comments in Raleigh displayed your ignorance of the rich history of collective bargaining. Your comments play right into the studios' hands," said a second person.
Another person wrote, "So you don't support the strike? And I wouldn't be supporting any of your future projects. Bye."
One disappointed fan said, "So you're scabbing? That is very disappointing. Bye."
A fifth person explained to Amell why the strike was an important move saying, "Friendly reminder, the strikes are more for the exploited cast/crew, less for the already rich white guy. What's 'myopic' is not being able to see beyond your own privilege."
"Leave SAG if you don't support us," wrote another person.
