Serena Williams has unveiled baby No. 2's gender!
The legendary tennis star recently revealed that she and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, would welcome a daughter — their second child — in the coming months. However, before she got the pleasure of discovering the exciting news, the Reddit co-founder ensured that he trolled her with a fake gender reveal cake. The funny encounter comes months after the couple unveiled the pregnancy on the red carpet of the 2023 Met Gala.
Alexis Ohanian Pranked Serena Williams With A Yellow Cake Amid Their Gender Reveal Party
On Monday, Williams took to her YouTube channel to upload a six-minute video, which opened with her searching for befitting shoes to wear to what she termed a "baby shower slash gender reveal."
As the retired tennis player did that, she spilled to the camera that she was "Team Pink," adding that she had no idea how she would react to having a son. She admitted, "I'm nervous because I don't have any contingency plan if he turns out to be a boy."
As the party, which moved from the daytime into the night, continued outside, Alexis appeared in private footage, revealing that he was giving his wife a cake to cut. In his words:
"This cake is as basic of a gender reveal idea as I can come up with. Inside, it's yellow. I'm doing this because I want to troll her and Olympia into thinking that this is the reveal of Jelly Bean. She will cut into this cake, probably be disappointed, and hopefully appreciate my troll, but we'll see."
Once he wrapped up his monologue, the clip showcased his wife cutting into the cake to find a regular yellow filling. Her response to the trolling was to act as if she wanted to smear the piece she cut out in his face, earning a laugh from their guests.
Olympia also grabbed the mic from her dad to declare that he can "never do that ever again," as he insisted that the cake was "a little bit of a prank." The real reveal came when the internet entrepreneur orchestrated a high-tech drone show that revealed they were having a baby girl.
"She's re-creating little Serena and Venus. Love it for her. Their legacy continues. Congrats to the entire family," one fan eagerly wrote in the comments. A second fan claimed, "Venus' reaction is worth the prank. Her level of excitement and then disappointment are hilarious. 😂"
A third person gushed, "How mischievous but a fun twist to make the gender reveal more suspenseful!" and a fourth chimed, "I love the fact that the gathering they had is so simple 🥹 simple and very intimate 🎉❤💕 congratulations!!!!"
"Congratulations! Alexis needs to watch his back because Auntie Venus was too hype when they were cutting the cake for it to be yellow. I totally see her getting you a few times for that one," a fifth viewer warned.
The 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' Cameo Actress Recently Reeled Off Some Baby Names
In May, The Blast reported that Serena had shared an insight into the potential names she was considering for her unborn baby. As it turned out, the 41-year-old was not gunning for regular names but for the ones that some of her favorite Disney characters bore in classic animations.
"Good Morning. I was thinking about… I don't know the gender; I don't know if we're having a girl or a boy. So, I'm thinking about some names, and I was like, maybe I should do something with my favorite Disney characters because I love Disney, and as you know, I'm like their biggest fan," she began in a clip posted to TikTok.
She then uttered that if it was a girl, she considered naming her Maleficent, Ursula, or Lady Gothel, and Scar or Gaston if it were a boy. As she wrapped up, the "My Wife and Kids" guest star enthusiastically said, "So, just been through these names. Telling you I'm onto something."
Since she had opened up about her thoughts on baby names, her fans took it as a sign to drop their own suggestions, with one typing in the comment section, "Olympia is Alexis Olympia = A.O., Australian Open. Hear me out, Roland Garros, or even Ashe for Arthur Ashe. Hercules, if you want Disney. Aurora, if girl!"
