Todd Chrisley's Rejection To Finish Sentence In Home Confinement Leads To Investigation

The heads of the Chrisley clan are doing everything possible to escape their hellish imprisonment! After allegedly suffering under terrible conditions, the couple tried and failed to receive home confinement.

Seven months have passed in Todd and Julie Chrisley's combined 19-year prison sentence. However, the lovebirds may not survive their punishment. The pair's term for tax evasion and bank fraud has been challenging with reported "inhumane conditions."

In light of these claims, the patriarch requested to serve the remainder of his sentence at home. However, his plea was rejected, an outcome the real estate mogul's lawyer believed should never have happened. Please keep reading to learn more about the family's ongoing crisis.

The extreme heat conditions at the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida reportedly influenced the "Chrisleys Knows Best" alum's decision to be confined at home. Addressing his client's dilemma, the legal representative Jay Surgent explained to PEOPLE that the 54-year-old made "an application under the CARES Act to be released."

However, the media personality's request "as well as a number of other applications — but particularly his — was rejected." The Georgia native's attorney implied the real estate tycoon lost the opportunity because of a biased employee. Surgent claimed:

"He submitted it, but the person that was administrating it and was in charge of processing it decided that she didn't want to do that. She decided not to do it."

The lawyer continued,"And then, the time period for the application expired, so he wasn't given due consideration with reference to being admitted to home confinement or taken advantage of some type of a probationary program," noting the truth behind the rejection would soon be uncovered.

"It's very, very unfortunate, and that matter is now being investigated internally, and we feel as though there was no reason why it should have not been processed, even in light of his prison term," Surgent explained.

Regarding the alleged terrible prison conditions, the legal representative stated Todd and Julie were "living in squalor in 100-degree temperatures." However, before their pleas to escape the severe heat, the couple had been fighting their combined 19-year sentence.

Before reporting to their respective prison camps in January, the duo began appealing their case in December 2022. According to their attorney, the final steps in the request were recently completed, and they hoped for two outcomes.

First, the "11th Circuit Court of Appeals can reverse the district court," or Surgent noted, "they could remand the case back for hearings that should have been held that were not held during the course of this trial."

The attorney strongly believed his clients' would receive justice, stating the spouses' constitutional rights had been "violated." The defense counsel argued: "They basically were not given a fair hearing. It's all in black and white actually. And their living conditions, both of them, he in Pensacola, she in Lexington, Kentucky, it's an absolute ridiculous situation,"

Surgent continued. "Not that we're saying that they deserve special treatment because they're celebrities. They don't. What we're saying is that they, along with other inmates, deserve better treatment. We shouldn't be treating our prisoners the way we're treating our prisoners at this point in time."

Before Todd and Julie's lawyer opened up about their alleged hellish experiences, two of the couple's children addressed their imprisonment. During an episode of the "Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley" podcast, the titular host and her older brother, Chase Chrisley, weighed in on their parents' suffering.

The Chrisley's oldest son recently visited his father in jail and recounted what he had seen on his sister's show. Using the term "nightmare" to describe the prison, the 27-year-old wailed:

"Now they both have no air conditioning … they’re both in states where it gets 100 plus degrees, and there’s no air conditioning."

Savannah echoed similar opinions, noting the living conditions were "inhumane" and "disgusting." Additionally, it seemed Julie had it worse as her prison came with the heat and "poisonous snakes."

The podcast host claimed her mother had "rattlesnakes just casually slithering on the floor in front of her" and "right there where her bed is." However, her older brother refuted the "rattlesnake" comment, stating Julie lived among "poisonous snakes."
