Afida Turner Says Her Her Life Became A 'Real Nightmare'
Tina Turner's daughter-in-law, Afida Turner, recently opened up about her emotional struggles amid the loss of her loved ones in an interview with People magazine.
Afida's grief stems from the death of her husband, Ronnie Turner, Ike, and Tina Turner's only biological son, who tragically succumbed to colon cancer at 62 seven months ago.
To compound her sorrow, in May, her mother-in-law, the iconic Queen of Rock and Roll, also passed away at 83 after battling various health issues, including a stroke and kidney disease.
The dual blow of their deaths has been utterly agonizing for the French singer, as she fondly recalled her "beautiful" life in Encino with Ronnie over the past 15 years. "It's like a punishment. Morning and night, I'm crying and screaming," she told the publication.
"My life in Los Angeles became a nightmare — a real nightmare. That's why I got the f**k out of there. No house, no furniture. Just my memories and Ronnie's clothes."
Afida Turner Reveals Plan To Have A Baby With Late Husband's Sperm
Amid her grief, Afida finds a glimmer of hope in the idea of motherhood. She told the outlet, "I'm going to have Ronnie's baby!"
Afida plans to have a baby using her eggs and the sperm that Ronnie froze as a birthday gift before his passing. She aims to undergo IVF in order to become a mother before her next birthday on December 22. "At least I will have a little one that looks like Ronnie. A monster like me and him, can you imagine?" she stated.
As Afida adjusts to life without her family, she shared that the baby is the ultimate posthumous gift from her late husband, saying, "Ronnie left me a very nice gift."
Fondly recalling the memories of her late partner, she said, "He was a big character with big energy and craziness who was perfect. I won't ever find another man like that in my life."
'I Go Back Home And Scream The Name Of My Loved Ones'
In her interview with People, Afida revealed that she is constantly reminded of her deep emotional struggle, stating, "It is very difficult for me because people only see the music or the pictures, but I go back home and scream the names of my loved ones. [That pain] will never go away."
She admitted to feeling depressed and "thinking about the very bad, dark, bad stuff."
"You don't want to go through this in life. You have to talk to God, otherwise, you go nuts and kill yourself. I'm suffering and my heart is destroyed. I'm trying not to lose my mind," Afida added.
In a chat with the Daily Mail, the actress gave a candid account of the profound heartache that Tina Turner experienced as a mother to four children, tragically outliving two; her sons, Craige and Ronnie.
While speaking about the late legends passing, Afida said, "They never had time to spend together, and now all three of them are together."
Afida And Ronnie Turner's Love Story
Afida and Ronnie first met in 2005 during a recording session for her soul-pop song "French Kiss."
Working with engineer Ike Turner Jr., who invited Ronnie to play bass and guitar on the track, Afida was immediately captivated by Ronnie's striking appearance and charm. The "Etienne" singer recalled Ronnie giving her a "magic kiss" in the studio, igniting a strong connection between them.
A year later, after spending a week writing together at his Hollywood home, Ronnie expressed his desire for a proper relationship, telling her, "Please stay with me. Don't go, I'm depressed."
Despite their undeniable chemistry, Afida hesitated due to Ronnie's tumultuous past and wild lifestyle. However, his persistence and genuine affection led him to propose to Afida on her birthday a few months into their relationship. The lovebirds eventually tied the knot in March 2007, just three months after their engagement.
