According to TMZ, Slater has officially filed for divorce from his estranged wife, Jay. The actor made the divorce filing in New York City, but as of now, the specific reason for their divorce has not been specified.

An earlier report by the news outlet claimed that Jay felt that the actor "abandoned his family" by pursuing his romance with singer Grande.

The two, who got married in 2018 and share a son, separated earlier in the year quietly prior to Slater forming a connection with the "Thank You, Next" hitmaker on the set of the musical film "Wicked."

However, even though they are not together, she is "upset" that their son "won't have both his mom and dad around constantly," as Slater seems to now be focused on blossoming his relationship with Grande.

Several days ago, it was reported that Jay and Slater were "high school sweethearts" and that their split had turned her into an "emotional wreck," per Page Six.

While it's unclear if they had earlier issues, sources have claimed that Grande played a part in their "breakup now when nothing appeared wrong between them."

Such speculations have seemingly made Slater and Grande lie low, as flaunting their relationship might seem disrespectful to their respective exes.

"It's understandable that emotions are high and it's hard seeing your ex move on, especially in such a public way, and her friends are trying to protect her," a source told TMZ about Jay.

They added, "But Ari and Ethan are just trying to lay low and be respectful of their exes as they pursue this new relationship."

A few months later, Grande deleted wedding pictures of her and her husband, Dalton Gomez, from her social media amid news of a possible breakup.

She also removed the images that she had posted with the caption, "I love him so," for their anniversary in May.

According to reports, the pair had a falling out and had "been quietly and lovingly working on their friendship," indicating that they still hoped to get along after their split.

Although the reason for their breakup is still unknown, sources claimed that they had already been "having some issues" before Grande became preoccupied with "Wicked" filming commitments.

The decision Ariana Grande made "to move forward" has reportedly been welcomed by her family and friends, per Us Weekly.

"As sad as it is, the consensus on both sides is that this is ultimately for the best. Ariana and Dalton are two very different people," a source told the publication.

Grande and Gomez started dating in January 2020, though it is unclear how they first connected. Their relationship was first seen in her Justin Bieber-assisted 2020 music video for "Stuck With You."

Nearly a year later, the two wed in a private ceremony at their Montecito, California, home in front of just their closest friends and family.

Although it is highly likely that they will do so soon, Grande and Gomez have not yet filed for divorce, unlike her new man Slater.
