Salma Hayek Dedicated Sweet Birthday Message To JLo Despite Controversial Past

Salma Hayek and Jennifer Lopez are besties for life!

The “Grown Ups” actress and the “Hustlers” actress were the literal queens of Tv in the ’90s. While they both shone on the screen, they maintained a close bond off Tv. However, in 1998, their relationship experienced controversies after Lopez blasted Hayek for lying for publicity. 

Over a decade after the incident, Hayek proves that the past is forgotten as she celebrates the “El Anillo” singer on her 54th birthday. 

The “House Of Gucci” star rang in JLo’s 54th birthday with a trip down memory lane on Instagram. Hayek uploaded an old photo featuring herself, Lopez, Ben Affleck, and other actors. In the shot, a younger Hayek donned a black dress with a plunging neckline and her dark hair styled in a bob.

Meanwhile, Lopez wore a flowery dress with a sweetheart neckline. The two Latina stars flashed smiles as they posed side by side while the other actors surrounded them. 

Alongside the photo, the “Eternals” actress left a sweet birthday message for her longtime pal. She wrote, “Happy birthday @jlo!???. Last night, out of the blue, I found this picture. I guess it meant I had to share it on your special day.”

She continued reminiscing on their bond, “It made me think back to a time when they said we wouldn’t make it. Then they said we wouldn’t last ???. Keep shining chica, and keep enjoying every second of it!”

Lopez replied to the sweet tribute with emojis, “????,” while fans left cute compliments for the duo. One fan penned, “Latin legends!!!,” and another gushed, “Two Queens.”

Although Hayek celebrating JLo’s birthday proves they are on best terms, they had a controversial past. Per reports, the controversies followed after the release of the 1997 film, “Selena,” where Lopez played the lead role. “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” star revealed she was first offered the position, but she refused. 

Later, in an interview with Movieline, the “Maid in Manhattan” actress blasted Hayek for claiming she was offered the role. Lopez said, “We’re in two different realms. She’s a sexy bombshell and those are the kinds of roles she does. I do all kinds of different things.”

“It makes me laugh when she says she got offered Selena, which was an outright lie. If that’s what she does to get herself publicity, then that’s her thing.”

However, three years after, Lopez finally addressed her statements about the “Grown Ups” actress and stated that she was misquoted. “I was so misquoted and so taken out of context, and it’s a sore subject for me,” Lopez told Vanity Fair in 2001.

Hayek’s throwback picture celebrating Lopez is also a reminder of the start of Lopez and Affleck’s relationship. A week ago, they marked the first anniversary of their Las Vegas wedding, and the singer commemorated the milestone with a heartwarming song. 

The romantic song “Midnight Trip to Vegas” detailed the challenges of planning a big Hollywood wedding. The Billboard-topping singer, in her fan newsletter, On the JLo, revealed some of the song’s lyrics. A part of it read, “It’s crowded with families and agents / Room reservations / Which destination / Paps’ helicopters / Event of the ages/ Didn’t tell a soul ’bout how it’s goin’ down tonight.”

Fans would recall that the  “Let’s Get Loud” singer previously shared that she and Affleck’s first experience wedding planning 20 years ago inspired their choice to tie the knot in Vegas.   

At that time, the “Hustlers” actress recalled her feelings towards her wedding, highlighting she had PTSD. “This time, I absolutely had a little PTSD. I was like, Is this happening? Is this really happening? And we were so happy, and of course, it was happening, but I just felt the wedding was so stressful.”

The multi-hyphenate further shared that her husband relieved her of the stress with his plan. In her words, “Ben just says, ‘F**k it, let's just go to Vegas and get married tonight.’” The “Mother” actress also teased the song on her Instagram. She uploaded a few selfies of herself in the stunning Valentino minidress she wore during her anniversary date with Affleck. 

She captioned the post, “One year since our Midnight Trip To Vegas … ?♠️❤️ Go to On The JLo for a special surprise… #ThisIsMeNow.”
