Dolph Lundgren and Emma Krokdal are officially married after having a private wedding ceremony in Mykonos. The couple first got engaged in 2020 and finally decided to marry in front of a small group of family and friends.
The newlyweds spoke to People Magazine about their decision to marry and explained that they'd had to "push [their] marriage plans many times" because of Covid-19 and other health issues. They added, "We felt it was finally the right time to celebrate love, life and happiness— in the land of the Gods."
Lundgren was previously married to jewelry designer and stylist Anette Qviberg from 1994 until 2011. The "Rocky IV" actor had two daughters with Qviberg during their marriage, 27-year-old Ida and 21-year-old Greta.
Dolph Lundgren Opens Up About His 8-Year Cancer Battle
Lundgren recently opened up about his cancer battles, which started about eight years ago. During an appearance on "In Depth with Graham Besinger," the actor revealed that his first diagnosis was in 2015 which was lung cancer.
The Swedish actor shared that he eventually went into remission after treatment, but then the cancer returned aggressively in 2020. When he received that second diagnosis, doctors said it was terminal and told Lundgren he had about 2 or 3 years to live. He got a second opinion and started receiving treatment for the cancer, which has shrunk them significantly.
During the interview, Lundgren wore a hospital gown and spoke about his recent surgery for cancer. He said, "It's the day after my surgery, they took out one tumor, then they took out another two they found and another three small ones. Hopefully it's cleaned out, if it dies, it dies."
Dolph Lundgren's Second Cancer Diagnosis
During the Besinger interview, Lundgren also spoke about how he got his 2020 cancer diagnosis. He said, "In 2020, I was back in Sweden and I had some kind of acid reflux, I didn't know what it was so I did an MRI. They found that there were a few more tumors around that area."
When doctors told the "The Expendables" actor that they'd found a larger tumor in his liver, he quickly sobered up. He said, "At that point it started to hit me that this was something serious. The surgeon called me and said it had grown. It was too big. It had grown to the size of a small lemon."
Lundgren explained that when the doctors even gave him the 2 to 3-year timeline, he knew he didn't have that long. He added, "I could tell in his voice he thought it was less. I thought that was it for sure."
He Thinks Steroids Might Have Affected His Health
Lundgren also opened up to Besinger about his suspicions that steroid use contributed to his cancer battles. He shared that he used steroid treatments "back in the 80s, 90s" but isn't sure if they actually had "something to do with the cancer."
The "Black Water" star said, "I thought about it, you always think you've made a mistake. I think maybe there is some connection between testosterone therapy and cancer. I was on steroids when I was younger, on and off for maybe ten years. Depending on the kind of movie I made."
Emma, the new Mrs. Lundgren, also spoke to Besinger about how the cancer affected her husband's body. She said, "His mouth got really sore, his hands got sore and he couldn't eat anything. That was a struggle, he was losing weight." She continued, "We realized it was a lot worse than we thought, they started talking about tumors in the lung, stomach, spine, outside the kidneys."
