Documents obtained by The Blast confirmed that Lisa Marie Presley died from a bowel obstruction, which was "caused by adhesions that developed after bariatric surgery years ago." The "adhesions" developed due to a secret weight loss surgery the late singer reportedly had.

However, news of said surgery has come as a big shock to Lisa Marie's friends, who were unaware she ever had such an operation done, especially because she was never really overweight. According to Page Six, a friend of Lisa Marie asked, "When did you ever see Lisa look as if she needed bariatric surgery?" They continued, "She was not big at all. I don't know what kind of doctor would perform this surgery on her."

By the time of her death, Lisa had reportedly been living in seclusion for several months. The celebrity had always been a homebody, but it worsened after her son, Benjamin, died from suicide in 2020.

Her last public appearance was in late 2022 to attend the Golden Globes award ceremony. Lisa attended to support Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" film, starring Austin Butler and looked noticeably thin on the red carpet.

Jeffrey Augustine, a former Scientologist, also talked to Page Six about Lisa Marie's desire to lose weight. He said, "She went on a crash diet to lose 40 pounds before showing up with Baz for the Elvis movie. She was having financial problems and she hoped the publicity from the film would bump up Elvis sales."

At the time of her death, Lisa Marie lived with her ex-husband Danny Keough, at her Calabasas house. Sources shared with Page Six that she was preparing to write a book on grief and was doing research on it. Lisa Marie was reportedly having interviews with grieving parents who had lost children, just like her.

The late singer was also working with grief and trauma expert David Kessler, whom she first met after Benjamin's death. He made an Instagram post after her tragic death. In it, Kessler revealed that Lisa's loss had "inspired her to work toward becoming an advocate for those who are struggling with the heartbreak of grief."

His post further read, "She wanted to talk to me, not because I was a grief expert, but because I was someone who also had a child die. It became an improbable friendship but that is how grief works."

At the time of her passing, Lisa Marie was in the midst of a legal battle with her ex-husband, Michael Lockwood. They were fighting for custody of their twin daughters, Finley and Harper, which placed a lot of strain on Lisa Marie.

After her death, Lockwood was officially appointed as the legal guardian of their twin girls.

Following her death, Lisa Marie's will placing her daughter, Riley Keough, and her late son, Benjamin, as co-trustees of her estate was also contested by her mother, Priscilla Presley, with whom she allegedly was not on good terms.

After an intense legal battle, Pricilla and her granddaughter, Riley, reached a settlement benefiting both parties, with Riley becoming the sole trustee of her late mother's estate.
