More than 400 are dead after a pastor in Kenya ordered his followers to fast to death so they can meet the man up top.
‘I Got The Door’ Said Pastor Paul Mackenzie
The pastor of the Good News International Church led his congregants to their deaths and is now with the authorities and facing jail time. he and 36 other suspects involved are denying that this is what happened.
Family members of the deceased are not sitting back and taking the alleged lies. In an interview with Kenya Nation a family member said, "He [Mackenzie] told them to starve themselves ahead of the world’s end on April 15, saying he would be that last one and that he would lock the doors.”
Stephen Mwiti is heartbroken as his wife and six children joined the cult and he is now suspecting that their bodies will be found among the deceased.
The Church Wasn’t Meant To Be Open
The cult was located in Malindi, Kenya according to NBC News. But what is wild is Mackenzie claimed he had closed the church four years ago so how did it get to this? So far, the death toll is 403.
Out of those 403 souls, 253 of them underwent DNA matching. The Independent is reporting that 95 people have been rescued so far, but unfortunately, 613 people have been reported missing to the Kenyan Red Cross.
Now that he is locked up, Mackenzie is allegedly moving forward with his plan to starve to death. The cult leader is refusing food and water. Other leaders in this cult have passed from starving in the recent past.
Pastor Paul Mackenzie’s Friend Died
The pastor recently lost his friend Joseph Juma, a member of the cult and described as Mackenzie’s right-hand man. Juma passed away while in police custody because, like Mackenzie, he refused food and water and died of a hunger strike in lockup.
30 of the 36 other people who were arrested alongside Mackenzie are also on a hunger strike in solidarity with their leader but apparently, they couldn’t hack it and a majority of them have begun eating again.
Now that the news has broken, former church members are coming forward to share their stories of the time they spent at the church with Pastor Mackenzie.
Paul Mackenzie’s Sermons Are Online
the former members shared that the pastor often spoke of the apocalypse and demons. The church’s banner read: “We are about to win the battle… let no-one turn back… the journey is about to be accomplished.”
Mackenzie has had run-ins with the law in the past in particular with children he was arrested over the disappearance of some children. He was eventually released on bond and here he is now, stand accused of murdering over 400 people in the name of God.
The president of Kenya, William Ruto released a statement:
“I am taking responsibility that as president, this should not have happened. And certainly, some people who are responsible for this failure on the part of the government will have to give an account, because it should not have happened when we have all the agencies. The promise I am giving to the people of Kenya is that we will get to the bottom of this matter, and I am also giving them my commitment.”
