'I Wanted Vanity Out Of The Picture
Florence Pugh, 27, is renowned for her high-fashion looks on the red carpet. However, regarding her on-screen appearances, the "Little Women" star prefers to embrace a make-up-free look to eliminate any distractions that Hollywood glamor might bring to the audience.
In a recent interview with the Radio Times, the Oxford-born actress revealed her conscious decision to "control her image" in the industry. Her bold move of shaving her head for an upcoming romantic drama, "We Live in Time," was part of that endeavor.
"I purposefully chose to look like that. I wanted vanity out of the picture," Pugh said of her dramatic hairdo, which she debuted at the Met Gala in May. "Hollywood is very glamorous - especially for women - and it's hard for an audience to see past that," she told the outlet, per Daily Mail.
She continued, "Whenever I've not needed to be glam or have a full face of make-up, I fight to keep it that way. It helps the audience. Vanity is gone. The only thing people can look at is your raw face."
This desire to control her image has been a part of Pugh's journey from the beginning of her career. "I was always fighting to control my image," she revealed. "It helps me when I wear less make-up because I'm less of a sparkly thing on screen. I'm allowed to do ugly faces like it's more acceptable."
Florence Pugh's Acting Career
Since her breakthrough role in the 2016 dark indie project, "Lady Macbeth," Pugh has been fearlessly navigating a diverse career path. With an Oscar nomination under her belt for her exceptional portrayal of Amy March in Greta Gerwig's adaptation of "Little Women," Pugh has proven her versatility in Marvel's "Black Widow" and Olivia Wilde's very controversial movie, "Don't Worry Darling."
Unafraid to take on any role, no matter the size or obscurity, Pugh courageously embraces each character with a daring spirit and takes the blame "if it goes wrong."
"There are things where I don't know how I mustered the courage - but I pushed myself off the cliff and hoped the wings came out," she said, per Daily Mail.
Her latest venture takes her to even greater heights as she stars in Christopher Nolan's epic film, "Oppenheimer," embodying the role of Jean Tatlock, an American physician who had a significant relationship with J. Robert Oppenheimer, the mind behind the creation of the atomic bomb.
Florence Pugh Revealed The Pivotal Role Of Her Career
In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Pugh offered valuable insights into her journey as an actress and how she successfully steered clear of being typecast as a "one-trick pony." However, she singled out a pivotal role that profoundly shaped her career and aspirations.
Opening up about her transformative experience, Pugh stated, "Lady Macbeth was probably the thing that kicked me into what it was that I wanted to make and what it was that I wanted to be." She continued, "But also, that was weird because I was supposed tobe doing an American TV show at the time, and it got pulled."
She recalled the pivotal moment that would change her trajectory, adding, "Three weeks later, when I was deciding what kind of an actor I wanted to be in the industry, Shaheen Baig sent me this audition for Lady Macbeth."
Florence Pugh Becomes Valentino's Brand Ambassador
In April, Pugh joined the ranks of the legendary Italian fashion house Valentino as a brand ambassador. The "Don't Worry Darling" star shared the news on her Instagram page.
In a two-part post, Pugh could be seen holding a stunning Valentino purse, gazing into the camera, her expression filled with pleasant surprise. The bag was tastefully paired with a stylish black shirt, complementing her signature nose ring and blonde hair parted on one side.

The second snapshot showcased Pugh again, holding the same purse in a silver shade. The metallic bag perfectly matched the exquisite Valentino heels she wore, all while donning a sleek, form-fitting gray shirt.
Underneath the captivating photos, Pugh wrote, "As you can see. I'm shocked and ecstatic to announce that my @maisonvalentino campaign is here. Truly an honor to continue creating art with my family at Valentino. Working with talented people is one thing, but to work with talented people who are great friends feeds the soul! And this campaign truly did feed the soul. Thank you for letting me be me."
