From humble beginnings to the pinnacle of the hip-hop world, Jay-Z's mother has been a constant pillar of support throughout his journey. She single-handedly raised the 53-year-old, his two older sisters, and his older brother in the challenging neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, after his father, Adnis Reeves, left them behind.

Despite their tough circumstances, Mama Hov's unwavering strength and determination prevailed. The "4:44" artist, acknowledging the 72-year-old's resilience, once shared in an interview, "We were living in a tough situation, but my mother managed."

When Hart asked, "Are you retired?" the beloved artist replied, "No. Uhm… I tried that, I'm terrible at that."

The entrepreneur was talking about his notable retirement in 2003 when he threw a massive farewell party at Madison Square Garden. However, it did not take long for the music industry to call him back.

"I was really burnt out that time. I was releasing an album every year — '96, '97, '98. And then in between that, soundtracks, other people's albums, Roc-A-Fella, touring back-to-back."

He further explained, "And you know, I just looked up one day, and I was like, 'I'm tired.' I had never been on a vacation until, like, I want to say 2000. Like, my whole life. And I was just really burnt out at that moment."

The Brooklyn native emphatically stated that he had not retired from the music scene as he considers music a gift and believes it would be unjust to shut it off completely.

When pondering the future, the "Empire State of Mind" rapper expressed his openness to different possibilities, stating, "It's open to whatever. It may have a different form, a different interpretation. Maybe it's not an album. Maybe it is. I have no idea, but I'm just gonna leave it open."
