"The Bachelorette" star Charity Lawson is opening up about her recent experience on the ABC reality show.
On a recent episode of "Good Morning America", the "Bachelorette" lead sat down with the hosts of the talk show and admitted that she fell in love with multiple men during her time on the ABC show.
Charity Lawson On Her "Bachelorette" Experience
The 27-year-old opened up on "Good Morning America", admitting she never thought she would have to prepare herself for the possibility of falling in love with multiple men.
"I will be honest, I don't think I did [brace myself]. I don't think I prepared myself for that possibility because, I mean, in the real world, you don't have the opportunity to date multiple people at the same time and then form these connections," she explained on "Good Morning America". "So for me, [falling in love with multiple people] definitely came as a shock," the 27-year-old child and family therapist continued to say.
"I was like, 'How do I help myself with this and process what I'm feeling?' The hardest part [was choosing]."
In the end, self-reflection and journaling actually helped Lawson make her end decision. "I journaled from the very beginning of my experience all the way to the end, which is so nice to be able to go back and reflect on," the "Bachelorette" lead said. "But in this environment, there's so much that's going on and I have a lot of thoughts -- a lot of things -- that are happening all at once, so to be able to take my thoughts and put them on paper to make better sense of them helped me regulate my emotions a lot better."
Charity Lawson Makes History
Charity Lawson is making history as the fourth woman of color to hold the role of “Bachelorette” lead and the second monoracial African American woman to be the “Bachelorette.” Rachel Lindsay was the first woman of color to be the “Bachelorette” lead on Season 13, followed by Tayshia Adams, who split Season 16 with Clare Crawley. The most recent before Lawson was Michelle Young, who was the Season 18 lead.
When speaking about the experience, the 27-year-old admitted, “It’s bigger than me.” "I’m honored to hold that representation for other people at home that look like me — little girls and women of color who can look up to me and acknowledge that this is possible for them too," she said while on Jennifer Hudson's talk show.
Lawson explained how she still can’t believe she is the “Bachelorette.” “I still am [processing it],” Lawson said on the show. “This time last year… I was graduating and then working [as a child and family therapist] and getting the opportunity to go on Zach’s season and be on The Bachelor, and now I’m on my journey.”
Charity Lawson Tells Fans To Buckle Up
While on a recent episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s podcast, Charity Lawson talked about the upcoming “Bachelorette” season. Bristowe asked Lawson to describe the upcoming finale in one word, to which the lead of the show chuckled and said “You’re taking me back”.
“One word to describe the finale? I mean, ’emotional.’ That’s it, yeah,” she then shared.
Bristowe, who also accepted the lead role of “Bachelorette” a few years ago, began talking about how emotional the entire season can be, especially being in the driver’s seat to which Lawson then interrupted and said, “You don’t understand. You don’t understand.”
“Put your seatbelts on!” Lawson expressed.
“The Bachelorette” airs Mondays on ABC.
