Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey is denying the sexual assault charges at his criminal trial and taking the opportunity to throw jabs at the opposing side.
For the uninitiated, the "Swimming with Sharks" star is standing trial at Southwark Crown Court on a dozen charges of sex offenses against four men, who made allegations that the American actor sexually assaulted them between 2001 and 2013 when they were in their 20s and 30s.
However, the two-time Oscar winner, who is in the third week of his sexual assault trial in the U.K., told the jury the alleged assault never happened. Now, as he gives evidence at the start of his defense, Spacey had something to say about the prosecution's case.
Kevin Spacey Brands The Prosecution Case As 'Weak' And Called Out His Accusers
The accuser claimed the 63-year-old actor had grabbed his crotch "like a cobra" after meeting him at a West End theater in the mid-2000s following an alleged "barrage of vile comments."
Taking to the witness stand for the second day of his defense, Spacey proposed that the complainant's accusations against him were false and for "money, money, and then money." He said the man has "made up his entire story from beginning to end," even tagging the case for the prosecution as "weak."
"I do not accept a single word that comes out of his mouth," the "Se7en" actor said in court on Friday. When the lawyer for the prosecution, Christina Agnew KC, questioned why the complainant would lie, he replied, "Money, money and then money," adding: "And I also believe he has, for whatever reason, anger towards me."
"I mean, maybe I wasn't as lovely to him as he would have hoped if we met that day, and maybe he was upset about other things concerning my sexuality," Spacey clarified.
The opposing lawyer first asked the "Baby Driver" actor if the "crotch grab" was something that he would "normally do to someone you had met for the first time," to which Spacey replied, "No." He questioned if the act was something Spacey had done before that had worked and that he considered it a "trademark." The Golden Globe winner still replied, "No.
"Let me put it this way, it is the term 'grabbing a crotch' or 'groping a crotch' that I object to," he added. When Agnew asked whether Spacey considered a crotch grab an "appropriate" first move, the actor replied: "That's generally not a first move."
After that, Spacey told jurors he is an "affectionate person" and agreed that he might hug someone after making a "first move." Questioned on what "moves" would be appropriate, the Hollywood actor said:
"Every encounter that we have as humans, that I have had, is unique. The circumstance is unique, the person is unique, and how we have interacted is unique. I can't give you a sort of rundown of what always happens; it's always different."
Alleged Victim In U.K. Trial Compared Kevin Spacey To His "Se7en" Character
A few days ago, in a chilling testimony, the "Beyond the Sea" star's alleged victim likened the renowned actor to his on-screen persona in the film "Se7en." As reported by The Blast, the 1995 movie is one of David Fincher's most successful films.
The gripping plot features a pair of detectives, played by superstars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, who hunt down a vicious murderer who commits kills based on the seven deadly sins. Spacey, who takes on the role of the killer in the film, is, interestingly, being compared to his character by one of the alleged victims.
Although the alleged victim remains anonymous and his identity undisclosed — in compliance with British law — he detailed the alleged horrifying abuse he endured from the influential actor then.
The "Working Girl" actor's accuser described the touching as targeting his "inner thighs and genitals," "pats on the butt," and coercive pressure to reciprocate. He then drew a parallel, noting, "It was a bit like his character in ['Se7en].
