Sebastian Wasn't Concerned About Competing For Kaitlin On 'Temptation Island'

It's been a wild few weeks so far for the couples and singles on this season of "Temptation Island." One of the singles, Sebastian Barraza, took time out of his day to sit down and chat exclusively with The Blast about his time on the island, the love triangle he's part of, and why he loved the addition of the Temptation Light.
Sebastian Barraza Opened Up About His Time On "Temptation Island"
Barraza decided to take a chance on the show in the hopes of finding love, but if nothing else, having some fun. He went into the experience with an open mind that if it happens, great. Citing that it's difficult to find true love in Miami, he thought "maybe going on the show, breaking up a relationship might be what I need." Ultimately, he explained that it was the "most unreal experience" he's ever had and was a really good time.
The Blast: It's been crazy so far!
Sebastian Barraza: I'm happy that I'm finally starting my watching the whole experience that I had.
TB: Oh, that must be fun watching it from your perspective.
SB: It is, except every episode I watch it with friends and family, we have little watch parties and every time I come on the screen, they all start laughing and yelling, so I can never hear what I have to say. I always have to watch it again by myself the next day."
TB: Knowing that Kaitlin came on the show with complicated feelings for Hall, and engaged, what were your thoughts when the two of you started to get closer?
SB: I was a little bit, obviously scared, because you're being vulnerable, you're dropping your guard and everything and this person can potentially throw all of that away, everything that you guys created in that little time and just go back to their partner. And more so with Kaitlin being engaged, I was very hesitant at first because of that. Because, I mean, for me personally, if I was engaged, I'm a very loyal person so I wouldn't even entertain anyone, so in the back of my head I had that there - this could potentially be for no reason. Which is why I was so reserved in the first half of the season, but towards right now where it's starting to happen, I guess my mindset was just like I came on here to learn to be vulnerable, learn to let somebody in, so let me just like embrace the full experience of the show and just f*** it, let it happen. It was definitely scary.
TB: That's difficult, because you're being vulnerable in front of millions of people.
SB: Exactly. And I don't think people realize it's mostly, everyone watching, is focused on the couples, not so much our feelings and stuff. People forget that for us it's like you're going through it as well, you're dropping your guard and catching feeling for someone that could just end up throwing it away and going back so it is very tough.
TB: Did you feel like you were competing with Mike for Kaitlin's attention?
SB: I knew I was competing, and I knew that obviously he was there first and they were already starting to form a really deep connection but once I came in the picture and started flirting with her more and I saw that she was very much attracted to me and very interested, I knew. I'm confident in myself and I back myself up so I knew it wasn't going to be, no offense to Mike, but I knew it wasn't going to be a competition for me. I just laid back, I was myself and it was only working and he was getting jealous and it was pushing her more toward me. I love Mike, but there's no competition here.
TB: Was there a lot of tension between you and Mike?
SB: There was, yeah. He was really salty. He started talking a lot of sh** about me and he told Kaitlin that I was there for the wrong reasons and stuff which only made it look worse on him cause she just came straight to me and told me what he was saying. And I was just hurt because I had a moment with Mike way before my connection with Kaitlin started and I had a moment where I was kind of vulnerable with him and I was emotional and talking about my ex. He told me that it takes a lot for a man to be open about his feelings and you're such a dope guy. He was just being so nice to me and then to have him go do that, I was more so disappointed in that, but in the moment I was just pi**ed and I went about it the wrong way when I found out. It is what it is, obviously everyone has different reactions to things and I guess when he found out that I came into the picture he probably just got salty and he was maybe feeling like he really liked her. He apologized after, which we squashed it and everything was fine, but in the moment it was kind of heated.
TB: Tell me how the Temptation Light changed the vibe in the house.
SB: I liked it, just because I felt like once the girls see, oh sh** they could possibly be, like I could be the one being cheated right now, it made them more open to embrace the experience more and just really like giving us that chance. A lot of them were giving us the time of day and talking to us but they weren't willing to go past that point, just because obviously you don't want to be cheat, you want to be loyal. But once they started seeing that light go off, I want to say it made them more inclined to cross that line and really explore us and all of that, so I liked it. The only thing I wished, to make it more dramatic, was that they would have known exactly who's cheating, but I know that would be a lot more tension.
TB: Was the experience how you expected it to be or was it completely different than your original expectations?
SB: I think it was completely different. Obviously, I didn't know what to expect, but you know you always have an idea of what's gonna happen or you at least try to paint one in your head. No, no, it was completely different but in the best way possible.
The question remains, will Barraza get the girl or is he going home just as single as when he arrived on the island? Are you Team Mike or Team Sebastian for Kaitlin?
"Temptation Island" airs on USA Network on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
