Emily Blunt Is Taking A Break From Acting
The 40-year-old star, known for her captivating performances in films such as "The Devil Wears Prada," "A Quiet Place," and "Mary Poppins Returns," has been a prominent figure in Hollywood for over a decade. However, the toll of constantly delving into intense roles and immersing herself in challenging characters has led Blunt to take a break to prioritize her mental and emotional health, per Page Six.
In a recent interview on iHeart's "Table For Two with Bruce Bozzi" podcast, Blunt shared her perspective on the demanding nature of her career, noting that she'll be taking a much-deserved break from the big screen.
"This year, I'm not working," she said. "I worked quite a bit last year and my oldest baby is 9, so we're in the last year of single digits. And I just feel [like] there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they're little."
She went on, "And it's, 'Will you wake me up? Will you take me to school? Will you pick me up? Will you put me to bed?' And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones."
Emily Blunt Says Her Children Suffered 'Emotional Cost' Of Her Career
According to the news outlet, the actress added that there was a great "emotional cost" not only to herself but also to her children when she took on time-consuming projects.
Blunt, who shares two young daughters with her husband, fellow actor John Krasinski, acknowledged the challenges of balancing her demanding career with her responsibilities as a parent, noting that she's "very prone to guilt."
"I think maybe all mothers are," she explained. "You're just prone to feeling bad for, God forbid, wanting something outside of being a mother."
The actress added, "I am a huge advocate for it — I'm a huge advocate for women being ambitious. It's just dreams with purpose, it's not an ugly word."
She Doesn't Want Her Kids To Pursue An Acting Career
According to Harper's Bazaar, Blunt opened up about her personal views on her daughters pursuing acting as a career. The talented actress expressed that she doesn't want her children to pursue a career in acting.
Blunt, who shares two daughters with her husband, actor John Krasinski, explained that the industry can be "very disappointing" for women due to its superficial element.
"My toes curl when people tell me, 'My daughter wants to be an actress.' I want to say, 'Don't do it,'" she said.
"Because it's a hard industry, and it can be very disappointing. A lot of people tell you not to take things personally — but it's completely personal, especially when you're being judged on how you look. So you just have to endure that side of things," Blunt added.
