Mark Hamill Gives 'Hard Pass' On 'Cocaine Bear' Spin-Off 'Cocaine Ewok'

Actor Mark Hamill is apparently not a potential spin-off for "Cocaine Bear" called "Cocaine Ewok."

A fan shared a poster for the fictional movie on Twitter, which caught the attention of the "Star Wars" alum. Although some fans would love to see what would happen if a ton of cocaine landed on the forest moon of Endor, it seems that the actor behind the character of Luke Skywalker would not!

In case fans aren’t familiar with it, “Cocaine Bear” is a movie directed by Elizabeth Banks. The horror comedy is loosely inspired by the real-life story of an American black bear that ingested almost seventy-five pounds of lost cocaine.

Although there are no demands for a sequel, that doesn’t mean that fans wouldn’t like to see what other shenanigans (and carnage) would unfold if other animals also ran into cocaine in the middle of the forest. It gave one fan the idea to create a fictional movie poster for “Cocaine Ewok.”

The photo caught the attention of Mark Hamill, who shared it on his Twitter page with the caption, “Hard pass.” Although he wanted to pass on the project, there were some fans who were invested in the possibility of the movie coming to fruition.

“Would totally watch,” one fan commented. “But I just bought my ticket because I thought you were in it,” another follower joked. “Why!!!!” a third fan exclaimed. “But the adventure…” another follower wrote. “Hard sniff,” another fan teased. “Come on, this would be an amazing movie,” another follower wrote. “I want to see that. I am 100% on board with cocaine Ewok,” another fan added. “I would go see it,” another follower agreed.

The movie is a horror comedy that features a 175-pound American black bag that stumbles upon a bag of cocaine in the woods. That really happened in December 1985, although the bear died. The cocaine had been dropped by Andrew C. Thorton II, a convicted drug smuggler, who was smuggling a heavy load.

Thorton jumped out of the plane with a faulty parachute and died. Thorton, and the deceased bear, were found three months later in northern Georgia along with forty opened plastic containers of cocaine. In 2015, the American black bear was dubbed “Cocaine Bear” when it went on display at the Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall in Lexington, Kentucky.

The film took several liberties from the real story. The real-life Cocaine Bear is not known to have killed anyone after consuming the cocaine. The film stars  Keri Russell, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery, Alden Ehrenreich, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Ray Liotta. The film was dated to the late Liotta, who passed away in May 2022.

Although fans would love to see Mark Hamill return to a galaxy far, far away, it looks like he has given up his lightsaber. The 71-year-old actor originated the role of Luke Skywalker in the first “Star Wars” movie: 1977’s “A New Hope.” Although he reprised his role in the sequel trilogy, he indicated that he is ready to retire the character while promoting his new film “The Machine.”

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Mark Hamill told host Tracy Smith that although he is happy to see how much the character of Luke Skywalker has meant to fans, he never thought that he would be remembered for the role.

“I mean, the truth of the matter is, I never really expected to be remembered for anything,” Hamill said. “I just wanted to make a living doing what I liked. And I thought, ‘Well, it could be worse. I could be, like, known as being the best actor who ever played Adolf Hitler, you know?’ At least Luke is an admirable fellow!”

When asked if he would ever return to play the character again, the actor said, “I just don’t see any reason to,” adding, “Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore. I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough.”
