Legendary actor Alan Arkin has passed away at 89. His sons have confirmed their dad “will be deeply missed.”
Alan Arkin’s Passing Confirmed
The Kominsky Method actor’s sons, Adam, Matthew, and Anthony released a statement memorializing their dad. “Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man,” they said in a statement released to PEOPLE.
“A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed.” Arkin’s career in Hollywood spanned decades and pre-nepo baby hate, he helped his son Adam break into the industry.
The two have had immense success. Alan has gained Emmy nominations, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild nominations for his eclectic roles. Including Little Miss Sunshine where he played the outspoken grandfather. His 14-minute screen time stole the show from the almost 2-hour film!

As the news spreads famous friends and famous fans of the actor have taken to social media to share their favorite roles, memories, etc of the popular actor. Jason Alexander was one of the first people to post about the passing of the beloved actor.
“#ripAlanArkin Such a wonderful, original voice for comedy. And on the few occasions, I was in his presence, a kind and generous soul. I learned so much from watching him. And the laughs I got from his glorious work seem endless. May he rest well,” wrote the Seinfeld alum.
Comedian and actor Michael Rapaport was shocked to hear the news. He praised Arkin for his presence on screen. “The great Alan Arkin has passed at 89! He made acting look EASY & always seemed like he was having a ball.”
Patton Oswalt also praised the actor’s skills. “Did ANYONE have the range Alan Arkin had? Hilarious, sinister, insane, tragic. No mood he couldn't live in. RIP.”
Octavia Spencer shared her heartfelt experience with Arkin on Instagram.
"Alan Arkin. I’ve always been enamored of his talent but his compassion is unmatched. He was one of the first to screen HIDDEN FIGURES and afterwards I received a call from him. That conversation is forever locked in my heart, buffered by gratitude. I truly hope that whatever your discipline when you least expect it, someone you admire greatly puts the wind in your sails as Alan did for me. Rest in peace and power."

Alan Arkin Was A Bad Boy
The actor who was born and raised in New York was a bit of a bad boy, he liked to push back a little and it got him in trouble sometimes he admitted in interviews. He went to three different colleges and finally graduated from Bennington College in Vermont.
According to funnyman Alan, he can’t recall if he graduated even though the college enlists him as an alum. “They might have thrown me out,” he joked at one point. “I don't remember.” Truly, his schooling was Second City.
He accredits his time on the Second City stage in Chicago as a lifesaver. “Second City saved my life. It literally saved my life," Arkin said. "I have a feeling it's true for a lot of other people, too.”

The Arkin’s are truly a family of actors with Adam directing things like The Offer and starring in truly chilling roles like Ethan Zobelle on Sons of Anarchy. The 66-year-old is also known for starring in Chicago Hope, 8 Simple Rules.
