Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Have Moved Out Officially
According to a report from ITV News, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have officially moved out of Frogmore Cottage. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first received their eviction notice from King Charles about three months ago. A palace official revealed that the couple "only just left" the property.
The last of their things were shipped to their California home, and the couple has returned the keys to the estate. Frogmore Cottage was Harry and Meghan's home for years, and their official U.K. residence after Queen Elizabeth II gifted them the property.
The last time Harry or Meghan was at the property was when the Prince traveled there for hacking lawsuit trials against the Daily Mail. The annual Sovereign Grant now reports that Frogmore Cottage is a vacant property.
The Eviction Notice Was Issued After Prince Harry Released His Memoir
King Charles issued the eviction notice the day after Harry released his controversial memoir, "Spare." Harry made multiple shocking claims about his family in the book, including revealing that the King often joked about his paternity.
One of the most shocking revelations was of a fight between Harry and William over Meghan. The Duke of Sussex claimed that he and his brother, the Prince of Wales, had a conversation during which William called Meghan a "rude," "difficult," and "abrasive" person, which angered him.
The conversation soon turned into an argument and fight, during which William grabbed Harry "by the collar, ripping [his] necklace, and … knocked [him] to the floor." Neither Charles nor William has addressed any of the claims, but it has severely damaged the family's relationship.
King Charles Wants Prince Andrew To Move Into Frogmore Cottage
The Royal Palace hasn't confirmed who will be the next tenants of Frogmore Cottage. However, Charles is rumored to want the home for his younger brother, Prince Andrew. Andrew is refusing the gift because it's a big downgrade from his current accommodation, Royal Lodge. Royal Lodge is one of the more luxurious Royal properties, with 30 bedrooms and a sprawling estate.
A Royal source claimed to Page Six that Andrew had offered Frogmore Cottage as a gift to his daughter, Princess Eugenie. Eugenie recently gave birth to her second boy, Ernest, with her husband, Jack Brooksbank. The source said, "For now, Andrew has got one over his brother and we will see how long it lasts."
The insider revealed that Charles wants Andrew to move into Frogmore so Royal Lodge will be vacant for Prince William and his family. However, William and his wife, Kate, aren't interested in moving homes and are "extremely happy" with their current home, Adelaide Cottage. They only recently moved there from Kensington Palace in September 2022.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Have To Find Private Accommodation When In The U.K.
With their eviction, Harry and Meghan no longer have a U.K. residence. This development means the couple would need private accommodation, like a hotel if they ever fly back. Any such bill would also come out of their personal pocket as there's a tighter belt on Royal spending and bills.
According to The Sun, the couple would need a "private agreement" with Charles to stay at any Royal residences in the future. There are multiple empty properties, including Buckingham Palace and several empty apartments at Kensington Palace, which were previously occupied by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
Harry and Meghan moved their family to America in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic spread. The couple has now settled with their kids in Santa Barbara, and Meghan's mom, Doria Ragland, stays nearby to be close to her daughter and grandkids.
