Actor John Boyega revealed that he finally got to speak to his "They Cloned Tyrone" costar Jamie Foxx amid his "medical complication."
The "Ray" star was filming "Back in Action" in Georgia with Cameron Diaz when he suffered a health scare that caused his subsequent hospitalization. The actor did not return to set and turned over his "Beat Shazam" hosting duties to Nick Cannon, prompting concerns about his health.
Although his daughter, Corinne Foxx, has been trying to assure fans that her father is well on the road to recovery, fans still don't know exactly what "medical complication" he suffered. Despite this, Boyega, who is best known to fans as Finn in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, wants fans to know that Foxx is doing well.
John Boyega Addresses Jamie Foxx Health Scare: 'He Finally Picked Up The Phone'
Last week, John Boyega said that he had been trying to contact Foxx for weeks to wish him a recovery. He spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the movie premiere of “They Cloned Tyrone” at the American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach, Florida, to say that he would keep calling until he knew Foxx was better.
"I've been calling, I'm just gonna keep on calling. He better pick up. Come on Jamie!" Boyega said, adding, "I know he's dealing with what he's dealing with, and we just wish him all the best."
Another costar, Teyonah Parris, told the outlet that she wished him “all the recovery and healing” at the event, adding, "it was just such an honor to work with him."
"He's so generous as an actor and as a human, along with John. I got lucky to be able to work with such dope men on this project, and dope men of color, that it was just so much fun," Parris said.
She praised the “lively” actor, noting that he brought “such an energy to the set.” She added, “We would never work. We all just had fun laughing and partying.”
Fortunately, it looks like “The Woman King” actor finally got in touch with Foxx. On Tuesday night, Boyega told People magazine that he was finally able to get the 55-year-old actor on the phone and wished him well.“He finally picked up the phone. Thank you, bro,” Boyega said. “He's doing well. And then, you know, we are just giving him the privacy, and we can't wait for his return.”
“I gave him the well wishes directly,” he continued. “I gave him all the well wishes. So I'm just gonna be waiting until he comes back out here. So take your time, Jamie. We love you, bro.”
Datari Turner, who co-produced “They Cloned Tyrone” alongside Foxx, assured fans that “he’s doing amazing,” adding, “I promise you. Doing really, really good. [Director] Juel [Taylor] talked to him yesterday. John Boyega talked to him yesterday. He's in really, really good shape and spirits. And he'll be back on the screen. He'll be back to work very soon.”
