Nina Ferraro has always been a successful risk-taker; her music career proves it.
The 28-year-old singer-songwriter BONZIE not only explores various styles of music, from indie to folk to alternative music, but has also released a song in Japanese.
As she's amid a seven-show tour, she had time to sit down and talk to The Blast about her music - past, present and future - and what fans can expect from her live shows.
BONZIE Has Been Singing Since An Early Age
BONZIE began her musical journey at 12 when she began writing her songs at a coffeehouse in her hometown of Racine, Wisconsin, and is still going strong. She stepped into music independently since no one in her family was in the music industry.
"I wanted to share the songs I had been writing by myself," she told The Blast. "I'm 28 now, and I plan to continue."
Her third and most recent studio album, "Reincarnation," maybe her boldest record yet. And there's another album in the works.
"I've been working on a new record. There are about 30 songs that I'm self-producing," she said. "I am excited to share a couple of new singles this summer and two new videos."
This will be her first completely self-produced record, and while she said there have been "trials and tribulations," it's been a fun adventure.
Her current tour features some of the yet-to-be-released songs she's working on, so fans get a sneak peek at her new album.
"The tour is going great," she said. "The energy in the live scene is positive. People want to see live music. We are at a time in the world where it's needed. It's been a perfect vibe."
BONZIE Released A Single In Japanese
The singer/songwriter has spent much of her life learning Japanese, and her training made it possible for her to release her single "Come to Me" in both English and Japanese, which is no easy feat.
"I took Japanese in high school, and I got into it. It clicked with me," she explained exclusively to The Blast. "After high school, I continued to take lessons and buy all the textbooks and all the apps. It's a top hobby of mine."
She explained that while writing the song in Japanese was a challenge for her, it was a fun adventure for her.
BONZIE recently shared some of her Japanese-speaking knowledge with her Instagram followers in a video captioned, "ぜんぜん完璧じゃない! My Japanese is not perfect at all! But studying is such a big part of my life I had to make a song in Japanese! If I keep studying, I'll look back at this in a year and feel I'm at a different level."

Her caption went on to say, "it's a freeing exercise of empathy and has transformed me and my creativity," and to remind fans that they can find the Japanese version of "Come To Me" from the album "Reincarnation" on Apple Music, Spotify, and other music streaming sites.
