Emilia Clarke is spilling exciting details of how she nearly ran over one of her "Secret Invasion" co-stars.
We are right there with you if you have wondered how the British star almost hit the beloved actor, especially since she has been driving for most of her adult life without publicized accidents. However, the "Game of Thrones" actress recalled the near-miss had nothing to do with her driving abilities and everything to do with the type of vehicle she was driving.
Emilia Clarke's Near Vehicular Impact With Samuel L. Jackson Involved An Exotic Russian Automobile
Although Clarke was thrilled to become a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a close call involving Samuel L. Jackson almost turned her MCU entry into a career-altering mess. Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment during a video interview about the mishap on the set of the upcoming "Secret Invasion" series, the 36-year-old said:
"I nearly ran him over. They put me in a Lada, which is like a very old Russian car. And I got in and I was like, 'Hey, what's with the six [shift knobs] up in here? Which one am I using? Why does it have 10 pedals?' It's [like] a tractor… I know how to drive."
While she would have ideally had some time to learn about the old automobile before driving it, time was not on the Drama Centre London alum's side because of hectic shooting demands. Clarke ultimately got behind the wheel since she believed all she had to do at that time was to drive briefly and then apply the brakes.
However, she had a second thing coming when she placed her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake. Upon realizing her mistake, the BreakTudo Awards nominee slammed the brake, narrowly missing Jackson.
She recounted that the famous action star "was very gentlemanly and lovely and nice" about the incident, but she "cried a little bit," and production let "someone else" drive the Russian gadget for her.
Days after the seven-time Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee's interview, her co-star had one with Hollywood Reporter. He spoke about Marvel allowing his Nick Fury character to show his vulnerability. In the "Pulp Fiction" actor's words:
"I didn't think it was a never. I just didn't know where that would be or why that would be. When Natasha [Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson)] died, there was a place for it there, because she was the person who was closest to him."
"There's something interesting about Nick Fury and his relationships with women in the MCU, as opposed to the guys. Even his relationship with Sonya is very different," Jackson added about the franchise shifting its focus to Fury's relationship with two other women: Sonya Falsworth [played by Olivia Colman] and Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers [played by Brie Larson].
The 'Solo: A Star Wars Story Actress Has Avoided Watching The 'GOT' Prequel
In January, The Blast reported that Clarke was actively working on not watching "Game of Thrones" prequel "House of the Dragon." When asked if she had started watching it, the actress, who played Daenerys Targaryen for eight years in the original HBO series until she was killed off in the finale, responded:
"No! Can you [forgive me]? It's too weird. I'm so happy it's happening. I'm over the moon about all the awards… I just can't do it. It's so weird. It's so strange. It's kind of like someone saying, 'You want to go to this school reunion that's not your year? Want to go to that school reunion?' That's how it feels. I'm avoiding it."
Similarly, her fellow co-star, Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in the beloved fantasy series, shared that he was hesitant to watch the prequel because the experience could be painful. In a subsequent interview, the "Modern Love" alum elaborated:
"I think to see people get into outfits and costumes that resemble what we wore for all those years, and it [has] the same music and style and tone, but not be in it is always going to feel — There's going to be a rawness there."
However, unlike Clarke, Harington would eventually watch the show to support its director Miguel Sapochnik. "I wish them all the best, but it's so close to my heart, that story, that, of course, there might be a bit of pain there," the "How to Train Your Dragon" voice actor further detailed.
