The former reality star hoped that the ever-evolving streaming and e-commerce site would be the perfect place for her life story based on her memoir Open Book, released in 2020.

It was a best-seller, and Simpson was set to be an executive producer, dipping her toes back in the producer water, a first since her reality series Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica on MTV. Radar Online is sharing that sources at Amazon believe that Simpson isn’t equipped to executive produce a TV show because her only experience is on a reality show where being smart wasn’t the vibe.

“On one level, Jessica is a TV expert because of the success of Newlyweds 20 years ago,” claimed an insider. “But turning her book into a streaming dramedy series has been a tall order.”

Suppose the show is based on her Open Book memoir, which touched on her time married to Nick Lachey, which wasn’t as bubbly and playful as fans got to see on TV. In the past, Simpson has expressed she felt trapped in that marriage.

Both have moved on to better relationships and are still married to both of those people today. So that worked out for the best, but there is no question the blonde bombshell has some juicy stories to share.

Seeing as the Amazon deal fell through, the singer-turned-beauty mogul is shopping around her idea. Sources share that Jessica “will be fine” no matter what happens.

Amazon shared the logline when they announced that they optioned the book for a series.

“Open Book follows pop star Sadie Sparrow’s mid-twenties rise from ingenue to mogul, introducing us to the family, friends, and lovers she collects along the way. Touching on themes of love, friendship, divorce, family and sisterhood, relationships, soul connections, Hollywood, and the music business, ‘Open Book’ follows Sadie’s unexpected journey as she ultimately comes to embrace herself and the fact that her heart inevitably wants what it wants at every stage of life.”

The deal was signed in 2022 but has been on pause since. In the meantime, Simpson released a follow-up book called Movie Star: They Always Say They’re Single — A True Story.

Simpson’s follow novel sounds more salacious and something that Amazon might want to switch out Open Book for. This memoir’s synopsis says.

“A short and true story about a world-famous actor and a fantasy Hollywood romance gone wrong by Jessica Simpson, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Open Book.

In 2006, after the end of her marriage to the first man she ever loved, Jessica Simpson wondered who she was. Exploring what she truly wants in a relationship, Jessica begins dating again. This time her only vow is not to leap for the fairy tale. Don’t overthink. Just enjoy the moment. But when an A-list childhood crush invites her on a romantic getaway, it’s impossible for Jessica not to swoon.
