Katy Perry Shares Romantic Reason Behind Her Sobriety Challenge With Orlando Bloom
Regarding being a supportive lover, the media personality is always ready to play her part, and she credited this sweet gesture as the motivation for her three-month sobriety pact with her fiancé. In her latest interview with PEOPLE, the "Last Friday Night" singer got candid about the couple's abstinence from alcohol.
Addressing her decision to embrace the sober lifestyle, the 38-year-old revealed the liquor cleanse aligned with the couple's detox system. However, the founder of De Soi, a non-alcoholic apéritifs brand, confessed her journey was not wholly booze-free.
"For me, it was an opportunity to reset. We reset after President's Day, and it was a great opportunity just to let my body bounce back a little bit," the Santa Barbara beauty explained, adding that she "had a pretty good relationship with just finding balance."
The five-time AMA winner said she was "not drinking" on weeknights. But she liked to "indulge a little bit when the weekend rolled in." The mother of one might not be entirely abstaining from alcohol; however, the reason for her sober pact with Bloom was enough to turn a blind to her little sips of booze.
The "Chained to the Rhythm" artist revealed she embraced the detox journey out of love for her fiancé. "We did this because he's shooting a movie in London right now that's taking every ounce of his focus, and so I wanted that opportunity to be supportive," Perry gushed.
"It's tough to do anything, whether doing a cleanse or a reset, unless your partner's doing it. So, doing it together makes it so much easier," the entertainer added, seemingly hinting that joint exercises made her relationship blossom.
On the same note, the 13-time Grammy nominee clarified she did not "really identify with any labels as far as sober or whatever." Instead of trying to fit her detox sessions into a box, the entertainer said she enjoyed the benefits.
"I love to have my reset moments, especially being 38, balancing the intensity of my career and having a toddler who loves to run," the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador confessed, referring to her 2½-year-old daughter Daisy Dove.
News of the couple's no-alcohol pact arrived months earlier when the "California Gurls" songstress raved about achieving a 5-week sobriety milestone. The Santa Barbara native shared the update during her appearance at a curated cocktail event at NYC's Mister Paradise in March.
"I've been doing a pact with my partner, and I want to quit," Perry announced while jokingly pretending to wipe her tears away. When tempted to break her pact, the entertainer vehemently denied the offer, saying, "No, girl! I can't cave. I made a promise. Three months."
The Hollywood Heartthrob Confessed That His Relationship With The Hitmaker Had Its Challenges
Months before their sobriety pact, Bloom spoke about the duo's iconic relationship and challenges. According to the "Kingdom of Heaven" star, the lovebirds had experienced their fair share of ups and downs like any other couple.
The pair, who first met in 2016, were a match even the actor did not believe would be compatible given their differences. Despite coming from two contrasting worlds, the pair made it work. Reflecting on their romance, the 46-year-old confessed:
“We’re in two very different pools. Her pool is not a pool that I necessarily understand, and I think my pool is not a pool that she necessarily understands. Sometimes things are really, really, really challenging.”
Bloom revealed the lovebirds struggled with their "emotions and creativity," noting that their busy careers also contributed to their issues. During their dating phase, the engaged pair broke up in 2017 due to their conflicting schedules and distance.
