Michael Cera Almost Married Aubrey Plaza
Cera spoke candidly in an interview with Rolling Stone about his former relationship with actress Aubrey Plaza, which began when they worked together on the hit television series "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" over a decade ago.
The 35-year-old actor reminisced about the strong chemistry he and Plaza shared on and off-screen. He explained how their relationship evolved into something deeper, leading them to contemplate taking the ultimate step of getting married.
"Almost, just spontaneously took a detour and got married," Cera recalled. "Something where you get a certificate. I think the idea was to then get a divorce right away, so we could call each other 'my ex-husband' and 'my ex-wife' at like, 20."
Michael Cera Was Full Of Praises For Aubrey Plaza
During the interview with the news outlet, Cera couldn't help but shower Plaza with praise, emphasizing her exceptional qualities as a person and actress. He spoke of her incredible talent, highlighting her professionalism and commitment.
"She's always been so committed to everything that she does," the actor remarked. "It's not surprising to me that she's doing really well. The thing that's surprising to me is how much she's producing and putting together projects. It's amazing. 'Ingrid Goes West?' That was so great."
Cera and Plaza were formerly in a relationship as they dated in the 2010s. However, the "Superbad" actor has since moved from the actress and is currently married to Nadine Cera, while Plaza, on the other hand, got married to Jeff Baena in 2021.
The pair are set to collaborate once more for the upcoming "Scott Pilgrim" animated Netflix series.
'I Feel Grateful For Life In General'
In addition to discussing his relationship with the "Emily the Criminal" actress, Cera also opened up about his feelings regarding the recent nostalgic revival of his career. The actor reflected on the impact his upcoming projects have and how he views them in the context of his career.
"I feel good. I feel grateful for life in general," Cera shared. "To be an actor, and working, and making a living doing it is such a fortunate thing. When you start as a kid, it's your dream, and I feel grateful to be living it. And I still really love working."
Cera acknowledged that the revival of films like "Scott Pilgrim" has allowed him to revisit those characters and their stories with a fresh perspective. He called it a "strange experience" to work with the same people for a remake of the same movie.
Michael Cera Was Slapped By Rihanna
According to Rolling Stone, Cera shared an unexpected and amusing anecdote about a memorable encounter with pop superstar Rihanna. The actor revealed that he had a humorous and slightly embarrassing run-in with the renowned singer during the set for "This Is The End."
The actor recounted the incident after the interviewer shared a version of the story that saw him ask Rihanna if he could slap her butt, to which she accepted, only if she'd get to slap him on his face.
"I think that's a slightly revised version," Cera chuckled, recounting the incident. "I don't think the takes weren't working. I thought it would look a lot better if she hit me. I don't think it took much convincing to get her to do it. I just thought it would look a lot better than a fake slap would because you can really feel it. It just looks a lot funnier!"
The actor went on to describe the scene as a mixture of shock and laughter. He emphasized that the slap was not intended to be harmful and that he did not regret it.
Cera said, "I definitely did not regret it! I was into it. The take that is in the movie, she really did hit my ear, which was disorienting. But I have no regrets. I didn't lose any hearing over it, fortunately!"
