It is no surprise that Disney Parks worldwide remain at the top of the list regarding theme park attendance.
AECOM(Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Management) and TEA (Themed Entertainment Association) have just released the 2022 Theme Index, and Disney completely dominates the list.
Disney Parks & Resorts currently holds eight of the top ten spots worldwide. Universal also appears on the list, with Universal Studios Japan taking the number five spot.
United States Theme Parks
Walt Disney World and Disneyland Parks dominated the United States section of the report.
All four Walt Disney World theme parks – Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom – all located in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland Park in California, hold the top five spots in North America.
To enter a theme park at Walt Disney World — including Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, or Disney’s Hollywood Studios — Guests must need a valid theme park ticket and a Park Pass reservation. Park Passes became the new norm following the shutdown of Disney theme parks due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Soon, however, Park Passes will not be required for Guests with date-based tickets.
For reference, date-based tickets are the standard option Disney World offers Guests; theme park reservations may still be required for those with other admission types, including non-dated tickets. For more information, visit our website here.
Following close behind on the list was Universal Studios. Universal’s two Florida-based parks, in Orlando, Florida, came directly after the Walt Disney World and Disneyland parks.
Disney California Adventure, the second Disneyland park located in California, and Universal Studios Hollywood, located in California, took place eight and nine, respectively.
International Theme Parks
It was not just the United States section that the Disney Parks dominated as their International Parks also took over the part of the report. Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, both part of the Tokyo Disney Resort, held the top two spots in Asia.
Shanghai Disneyland came in at the number five spot, with Hong Kong Disneyland ranking at number ten.
Looking To Visit A Disney Park?
Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland in Anaheim, California, utilize the Park Pass reservation. Guests need a valid theme park ticket and a valid Park Pass reservation to enter.
Park Passes became the new norm following the shutdown of Disney theme parks due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Per the Walt Disney World website, “To enter a theme park, all Guests ages three and older must have a theme park reservation in addition to valid admission for the same park on the same date (limit one park per day). A theme park reservation is not required to visit a water park. However, theme park reservation requirements are subject to change.”
If Guests want to visit more than one theme park on the same day, also known as Park Hopping, Guests must first enter the theme park they made their reservation for, and then after 2 p.m., they can enter a second or third park if they wish.
