Amanza Smith has been keeping her Instagram followers updated from her hospital bed on her condition and recovery from surgery and a blood infection.
The "Selling Sunset" star originally shared her scary situation earlier in the week and has kept everyone up-to-date on what's going on since.
Amanza Smith Is Recovering From Surgery And A Blood Infection
Smith, 46, has been battling osteomyelitis, a painful infection that spread from her blood to her spine and required surgery to help clear up.
The realtor shared in an Instagram Story that she's "in massive pain, but pain medicine is very wonderful when it kicks in because it helps so much."
Smith had been getting intravenous antibiotics every four hours for more than a week before surgery became necessary to remove a part of the infection from her spine that wasn't clearing up from the medication.
In a more recent update, Smith said she's feeling great and doing some physical therapy. She can now stand up and walk to the bathroom.
"I'm still getting my antibiotic IV's to hopefully clear the little section, the last little section of infection that I have on the upper part of my spine," she explained.
She said that doctors hope that the infection will clear up with antibiotics rather than surgery because of the location it's in.
"They would literally have to go through my back, around, in the front, or go through my front, or through my side and remove a rib to get to it," she said. "Or they can do it as I lay in a cat scan machine."
Amanza Smith Has Been Sharing Her Journey On Instagram
The reality star took to social media earlier in the week to explain what she's been going through. In a video, she shared some photos of her scans, blood draws and time in a hospital bed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
"Over a month ago and all of this started I thought that I had a bulging disk or a slipped disc or something wrong with my lower back that was regular. I laid in pain in my house for several days. I cried. I took Tylenol. I went to urgent care. I didn’t know what it was but after over a month of excruciating pain I finally started to get some answers," the caption of her video began.
"I got an MRI and a CT scan and then was told that I need to go to Cedar Sinai. I came to Cedar Sinai last Friday thinking that I was going to get another scan on my back and then go home. Instead, I was admitted and they immediately started testing me for things in my blood."
Doctors found an infection in her blood, and a great deal of the infection spread to her spine.
"They started me on antibiotics to treat the infection in my blood to hopefully diminish the infection in my spine that what they first thought was a tumor because of an MRI. That’s what it looks like. But the bad kind, not the kind that’s just infection," her caption continued. "Everyone was very scared, including myself."
Amanza's Spirits Are High!
While the "Selling Sunset" star is dealing with pain during her recovery, she's not letting it get her down. She's been sharing positive messages on Instagram.
"I heard this, and I thought it was amazing! Sometimes when you’re in a dark place you think you’ve been buried but actually you’ve been planted!" she captioned a short video.
"If you’re in a dark place, or you’re feeling low, it’s only up from there, so push through and the beautiful flower of abundance and health and goodness on the other side, it’s going to be so worth it! Just keep going."
Many of her followers took to the comments to leave their thoughts on the inspiring message she shared.
"This is so true! This is the universe giving you space to figure out what’s not working in your life. And removing things that are in the way of your greatness. Lean into this. And please be well, 😍😍😍" one person wrote.
Another added, "Hang on there girl, stay strong & positive. You’ve got it. The only way is up. Praying for you 🙏🙏❤️."
