Whoopi Goldberg is wasting no time shooting her shot!
After years of captivating audiences with her wit and charm on "The View," the actress is now setting her sights on a new challenge: becoming the host of the beloved game show, "Wheels of Fortune." With her unparalleled comedic timing and prior experience hosting game shows, seeing her on the long-running program could be a treat for fans.
Whoopi Goldberg Aims To Take The Reins Of 'Wheels Of Fortune
The Hollywood icon wasted no time throwing her hat into the ring for the coveted role of the show's next host during Tuesday's episode of "The View." She openly expressed her hidden ambition when Alyssa Farah Griffin brought up the topic, stating:
"Another legendary game show host, Pat Sajak, just announced that he's going to be retiring from Wheel of Fortune at the end of next season."
Before "Jeopardy!" host Ken Jennings could respond to Griffin's inquiry about his thoughts on the news, the 67-year-old eagerly interjected, "I want that job! I think it'd be lots of fun."
In a lighthearted moment, Goldberg's co-host Joy Behar playfully joined the conversation, suggesting, "And you know what? Sara [Haines] and I could be Vanna White. We'll take turns walking back and forth!"
Goldberg's surprising interest comes less than 24 hours after Sajak dropped a bombshell on Monday night, announcing his retirement through a tweet after an illustrious four-decade-long career. The 76-year-old wrote:
"Well, the time has come. I've decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It's been a wonderful ride, and I'll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it'll keep the clickbait sites busy!)."
Despite the anticipation surrounding the announcement, the news of the American TV personality's retirement still struck a chord with his devoted fans, who have remained loyal to "Wheel of Fortune" primarily because of his presence.
One fan expressed their heartfelt sentiment, "honestly brings a tear to my eye to think Pat Sajac [sic] will no longer be the host of Wheel of Fortune. What iconic moments have been had? Here's a pic from when Judy dude was chatting about life on the wheel with Pat."
A second person tweeted in disbelief, exclaiming, "Wtf. Take it back right now," accompanied by a gif of a woman crying hysterically. Expressing a sense of nostalgia, a third fan acknowledged the significance of Sajak's departure, stating:
"Wow – never thought this day would come even though logically it's inevitable. You, Vanna & the Wheel are an institution. It will be an end of an era."
Offering a positive perspective, the award-winning game shows host's daughter, Maggie Marie, joined in the comments, highlighting the enjoyment of working with her father and expressing anticipation for the upcoming Season 41.
The 'Airplane II: The Sequel' Guest Star's Retirement Has Been A Long Time Coming
Last year, The Blast reported that the former Armed Forces Radio disc jockey was seemingly considering retiring after being on the show since 1981. The voiceover artist revealed that he would likely retire long before the popular series reached its conclusion. Reflecting on the show's enduring popularity, Sajak said:
"In most television shows by this time, you would have said, 'That's probably enough,' but this show will not die. It appears I may go before the show."
Admitting that time flies, the former weatherman acknowledged, "Years go by fast," he admitted. "We're getting near the end. It's been a long [time]. We're not going to do this for another 40 years. The end is near."
The former "WLS radio" guest teen DJ also reflected on the privilege of being a part of people's lives for an extended period. He expressed his thoughts, "It's an honor to have been in people's living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We're happy and proud."
While Sajak may not continue hosting "Wheel of Fortune" indefinitely, he and Vanna White were thrilled to shift their focus to the highly anticipated season 3 premiere of "Celebrity Wheel of Fortune."
