TikToker Shares Exciting Update To Her Message In A Bottle Story!

Like something straight out of a romance novel, TikToker Anna Molinari recently shared her incredible message in a bottle story.

In the two viral videos, Molinari shares her adventure that began nine years ago. And just a few days ago, an exciting update to her story happened. Are you ready to meet Sumner?

To catch everyone up to speed on this amazing story, let's go back to the beginning - nine years ago.

Molinari explained in a TikTok video that while she was doing a semester during sophomore year in high school on a sailboat, she put a message in a bottle and tossed it overboard. Believe it or not, that one event has spanned all these years and offers plenty of great update stories.

The TikToker explained that the message in a bottle idea came about during a long stretch of sailing between the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas as everyone was bored. One of the mates suggested everyone writes a message, put it in a bottle and send it off to sea.

No one could have imagined what would happen next. Two months after the semester at sea ended and Molinari was back at school in Rhode Island, she got a handwritten letter delivered to her school from an 18-year-old offshore fisherman.

"He found the bottle 30-some miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina," she explained in her original video. "He spotted it in the water, told his fishing crew let's grab that, opened it, read the letter."

The two unlikely friends kept in touch with each other via social media and eventually met in person about a year-and-a-half after the bottle was found.

"He drives five hours through the weekend traffic, shows up in board shorts and barefoot with his blonde best friend,” she said. “This was the real life John B. and JJ for real.”

At this point, Molinari is just 17-years-old and her new friend is 19. She said she didn't fully grasp "how crazy this story is" at that point.

Now, seven years later, the two decided to meet up once again, but this time, as adults.

In an update video, Sumner tells his side of the crazy story.

"I'm Sumner. I found the message in a bottle nine years ago," he began. He explained that he was fishing 27 miles offshore when he found the bottle.

"We were actually really worried because it was sealed so well that we thought it was something like dying will and testament," he explained. "It took us a while to get it open without breaking it. Took us like half an hour."

He continued to tell his side of the events by explaining that he wrote a letter to Molinari and the two connected from there.

"We've kind of somewhat stayed connected ever since," he said. "It's actually been fun getting to see her again, like as an adult, because she was in high school, and I just finished my freshman year of college the first time we met."

Many of Molinari's followers had thoughts to share about this incredible story and update.

"It’s giving friends but I want it to give soulmates," one person wrote. "If he don’t propose with a message in a bottle," another added.

It appears after a brief scroll through comments that the consensus is friends vs. romantic, and for some, they were hoping for more. For others, they are just loving the entire adventure.

"They have 2 options: get married or write a book abt their story from both perspectives," one follower suggested. Another pointed out there may be hope for that romantic ending. "The way he looked up at her when he says it’s been fun getting to see her as an adult."
